A fairly good, slightly different arcade game... It's neither too hard nor too easy for beginners and a catchy tune is played throughout the game.

Survival Island (Starpath Corporation) (Atari 2600)

This game is really three games rolled into one - an action game, an adventure game and a maze game... Whichever you prefer, you should be happy with it.

Time Pilot (CBS Electronics) (Coleco Vision Games System)

For those who are looking for an unusual concept in a game... Although it's quite easy to master and becomes rather repetitive.

Positron (Micro Power) (Acorn Electron)

Good smooth graphics and appropriate sounds. It may be mindless, but it's fun!

Cybertron Mission (Micro Power) (Acorn Electron)

A mission worth going on... Once you get used to the keys and the fact that you always shoot in the direction in which you are moving, you'll find this game has a lot to offer.

Cruising On Broadway (Sunshine) (Dragon 32)

Proof that simple ideas are often the best... My only niggle is that you only get one man but the game is very fast and highly addictive.

Loch Ness Monsters (Romik) (Oric 48K)

Very addictive and its scrolling screen serves as the key feature of the game. This is very original and will have considerably more lasting appeal than most games.

Swoop (Micro Power) (Acorn Electron)

Fun to play but it quickly wears thin. The graphics are fine as far as the limit of the game allows and the Electron is given some nice swooping sounds to test out its speaker.

Super Skill Hangman (Salamander) (Dragon 32)

A good party game for all ages and should give hours of enjoyment.

Jack And The Beanstalk (Thor) (Spectrum 48K)

A very flashy game with great graphics and good presentation. My one gripe is that the first screen is a bit hard.

Dilithium Lift (Hewson Consultants) (Spectrum 16K)

The presentation is good with full instructions displayed after the title page, after which you are allowed to define the cursor keys yourself.

Bandits At 3 O' Clock (Micro Power) (Acorn Electron)

This game is difficult to get to grips with. It's only enjoyable in short bursts and the lack of manoeuvrability just adds to the frustration.

Jungle Jive (Virgin Games) (BBC/Electron)

The idea behind the game just doesn't justify the price-tag.

Royal Birkdale (Ocean) (Spectrum 48K)

If you are an aspiring golfer but cannot afford the club fees then this is an ideal compromise and again an example of the high standard of games one has come to expect from Ocean.

Rat Splat (Tansoft) (Oric 48K)

An original and very addictive arcade game... Its ease of use and compelling action make it an asset to any Oric software collection.

The Golden Baton (Digital Fantasia) (Acorn Electron)

Despite being fed up with text adventures, I liked the way this one was presented.

Kingdom Of Hamil (Acornsoft) (BBC Model B)

A very good program for those of you who like well-written adventures.

The Hobbit (Melbourne House) (BBC Model B)

The lack of illustrations in this version doesn't really affect the adventure itself but it does take far too long to load from cassette.

Croaker (Micro Power) (Acorn Electron)

The arcade features are all present and correct but the game lacks impact when compared with rivals on other machines and the cassette soon finds itself a permanent place at the bottom of the pile.

Pool (Dynabyte) (Acorn Electron)

An amusing little game, my only criticism being that it is a bit unrealistic as sometimes when balls collide they shoot off at higher than normal velocities.

Felix And The Fruit Monsters (Micro Power) (Acorn Electron)

The sort of game which demands that you get better through practice.

Lemming Syndrome (Dynabyte) (Acorn Electron)

An excellent game with superb graphics and an original idea to boot.

Adventure (Micro Power) (Acorn Electron)

Having played this, I reckon Program Power should stick to its (superb) arcade action games. If it continues to develop adventures, it needs to work through a few of its competitors' offerings before trying again.

Fruit Machine (Superior) (Acorn Electron)

It might be salutary to remember that it was the arrival of computer technology in the arcades spelt the end of the real fruit machines.

Dragon Trek (Salamander) (Dragon 32)

Extremely good graphics.

Bongo (Anirog) (Commodore Vic 20)

A must for Vic owners... It has six stages, a two-player option, three difficulty levels and a simulation of sprite graphics... The very best game I have seen for the Vic.

Brad Blasts The Galactic Barbarians (Express Software) (Spectrum 48K)

Although it's quite an interesting game, it's not one that would keep me up to the early hours.

Nightflight (Salamander) (Dragon 32)

Having seen other flight simulators, this one is not the best of the bunch.

Moon Raider (Micro Power) (Acorn Electron)

Not an easy game... but it is possible to access any stage of the game at a difficulty level of your choice so you can avoid the easy bits if you want.

Star Jammer (Salamander) (Dragon 32)

Although I found the game boring it does use good graphics and sound so you should be able to zap many aliens in your galaxy.
