Rubble Trouble (Micro Power) (BBC Model B)
Another variation on the Pengo theme... Very enjoyable to play.
Blockbuster (Micro Power) (BBC Model B)
An enjoyable variation of the arcade game Q*Bert. The response time is a little slow, but this problem can be overcome if you plan ahead.
An excellent game which is highly addictive... Sound and colour are used well.
Stock Car (Micro Power) (BBC Model B)
A well-thought out game... I'm already addicted! The graphics are not stunning but are colourful and adequate, whilst the sound is also kept to a minimum but is perfect for the job.
Brainstorm (Virgin Games) (BBC Model B)
The graphics and sound are below average. Unless you're desperate for a game, leave Brainstorm alone.
Nifty Lifty (Visions) (BBC Model A & B)
There is little skill involved in this game as your only controls are left and right - but younger users might enjoy it. It gets a bit boring after the first few levels.
Demolator (Visions) (BBC Model B)
Although the game is colourful and sound is acceptable, there is no real enjoyment and its addictive qualities are nil.
Jet Power Jack (Micro Power) (Acorn Electron)
A moderate idea has been made into a very playable game which is very addictive.
Corporate Climber (Dynabyte) (Acorn Electron)
This game has a certain humorous aspect. The screen is all-go with a time bonus ticking away, an indication of blood pressure which seems to accurately reflect the players current state of mind (!) and a motley assortment of objects for the climber to collect on his ascent.
Amstrad Review (Amstrad) (European Machines)
Its excellent graphics ability and very good (and stereo) sound make it a promising games machine.
Turbo (CBS Electronics) (Coleco Vision Games System)
Graphics are good and control is accurate. On higher skill levels your car goes round the course at a hair-raising speed, making this a very exciting game to play.
Miner 2049er (Micro Fun) (Coleco Vision Games System)
An average arcade game... It's similar to the more famous Manic Miner.
Subroc (CBS Electronics) (Coleco Vision Games System)
If you like unusual games, Subrock should be added to your collection. There is the unusual combination of space ships and ships such as tankers on the screen in one game!
Classic Racing (Salamander) (Oric 1/Oric Atmos)
A truly excellent and addictive simulation game... A must for Oric owners - Get it!
Heist (Softspot) (BBC Model B)
This is an enjoyable combination of both Donkey Kong and Space Panic with an element of its own.
Cuthbert In Space (Microdeal) (Commodore 64)
Keep one eye on directing the shuttle to collect the fuel pods and return to the mothership, and the other on avoiding the horizontally-flying objects otherwise known as the Intergalactic Police Force.
Arena 3000 (Microdeal) (Commodore 64)
A very addictive game... Each screen has a certain number of enemies of which there are eight different forms.
The Forest (Phipps Associates) (Spectrum 48K)
A lot of fun for those who already participate, and have previous experience, in orienteering.
Cuthbert In The Jungle (Microdeal) (Commodore 64)
I found this game to have a great addictive appeal, in that there are a number of obstacles that need to be overcome in a specific manner, before the treasures can be obtained.
Danger Ranger (Microdeal) (Commodore 64)
A very difficult game... Although I found myself increasingly attracted to the practice mode where my score seemed to be more reasonable.
The Ultimate Crossword (The Alien) (BBC Model B)
I am not the crossword sort of person, but I found it very enjoyable and easy to use.
Buffer Adventure (Buffer Micro Limited) (Spectrum 48K)
Well worth buying, but the vocabulary is rather limited... And it was difficult finding words that the computer could understand.
Demon Knight (Argus Press) (Spectrum 48K/128K)
This is very much a typical adventure game, but with a difference in the usual storyline. There's also a wonderful fairytale ending, if you ever get that far.
Invasion (Argus Press) (Spectrum 48K)
Recommended for a strategy fanatic. The graphics are only U.D.G.'s but reasonable considering the game is in BASIC and the sound is adequate.
Alien Intruders
Pole Position (Atarisoft) (Atari 2600)
This is one of the most enjoyable and addictive games that I have ever come across.
Bumping Buggies (Bubble Bus) (Commodore 64)
This is a very enjoyable game with some good musical effects. Well worth getting.
Chequered Flag (Sinclair Research) (Spectrum 48K)
Purely a race against time - there are no competing cars to get in your way. The graphics are quite stunning as you race around the track and this just about makes up for the lack of enemy cars.
Pole Position (Atarisoft) (BBC Model B)
The Commodore 64 version is better than the Beeb and Atari ones due to its extended colour range.
Greedy Dwarf (Goldstar) (Acorn Electron)
The game has a reasonably large vocabulary so finding a permitted word is not difficult. For keen adventurers, Greedy Dwarf would probably be the correct medicine for boredom.
The Oracle's Cave (Doric Computer Services) (Spectrum 48K)
Will very much appeal to younger players due to short playing time, simplicity of use and the fact that it should be quite easily modified.
The City Of Ehdollah (Goldstar) (Spectrum 48K/128K)
An interesting new text adventure game which has over 100 words in its vocabulary.
The Fall Of Rome (Argus Press) (Spectrum 48K)
A time-consuming, strategic game which is a lot of fun, especially if you succeed.
