Space Crusade (Gremlin) (Commodore 64)
An excellent tactical combat game. There's plenty of blasting, lots of skilful planning and loads of nail-biting suspense. And when you eventually manage to corner the terrifying Dreadnought and blow its tin legs off, it's absolutely marvellous.
Power Hits (Activision) (Commodore 64/128)
Power Hits isn't the bargain it first appears to be, for twenty quid you could go and buy a beautiful full-pricer or five dead smart budgets. Think about it.
Stryker In The Crypt Of Trogan (Codemasters) (Commodore 64/128)
It's got all the makings of an ace exploring game, and would have been great value for money. But you won't really want to get into it because the blimmin' character is so difficult to control properly.
Budokan (Electronic Arts) (Commodore 64/128)
A refreshingly different combat simulator... with depressingly familiar multiload habits.
Covergirl Poker (Daily Sport) (Commodore 64/128)
Just a mediocre poker game (the sort you would expect to find on a compilation), with some poor black and white graphics. I think the C64 world can get by perfectly well without software like this but if you still want to buy it, fair enough.
Airborne Ranger (Kixx) (Commodore 64/128)
Not a bad game... It's quite exciting, you get several different weapons to use (blowing up bunkers with the rocket is a hoot) and there's a fair bit of skill involved.
St. Dragon (Kixx) (Commodore 64/128)
Kill baddies, get better weapons, kill more baddies, kill big end-of-level baddies, get even better weapons, etc... This is one of the better ones. Not stunning but quite good.
Vendetta (Kixx) (Commodore 64/128)
Slow and boring... The graphics look fairly pretty, but the computer takes about eight months to draw each screen.
Italia '90 (Tronix) (Commodore 64/128)
Not a bad footy game, but it's not incredibly incredible either.
Midnight Resistance (The Hit Squad) (Commodore 64/128)
I like this...! It looks good, plays well and you can hurt people in it! What could be better?
Navy Moves (The Hit Squad) (Commodore 64/128)
The graphics are suitably watery and the sound is, er, splashy... but the game is so flippin' tough! It's a real pig to play it through to the end.
Multimixx 5 (Kixx) (Commodore 64/128)
Platform fans should rush out and buy this. It's got three rather good games on it. Nothing completely stunning, but at the price, you're getting a remarkably good deal.
Golden Axe (Tronix) (Commodore 64/128)
It's a great game, but it's dead tough. Loads of excellent graphics, plenty of ace sound effects and fast, accurate movement..
Ivon Stewart's Super Off-Road Racer (Tronix) (Commodore 64/128)
Dead tough to control your truck, and it's very, very annoying when you can't actually get it through a smallish gap, and you just keep bouncing off the walls, as well as other contestants.
Viz: The Game (Tronix) (Commodore 64/128)
All your 'faves' (in fact, people you shouldn't really have heard of) in a not-particularly fun-packed racing game with some swearing. Like Brunel's famous 19th century chair-lift across the Avon, it's a nice idea which could have been done so much better.
Monty Python's Flying Circus (Tronix) (Commodore 64/128)
Float around, trying to collect Spam and find bits of your brain. It's tricky, it's fast-moving and it involves planning your route... Immense fun and really well done.
G-LOC (U. S. Gold) (Commodore 64)
As an arcade, G-LOC is an 'in yer face' flight fight. Different tactics and tricks are needed for each level, and finding them allows you to reach new heights, but you could never accuse it of being loaded with gameplay.
