Poor animation and not much colour... At eight quid it's only average.

Nick Faldo Plays The Open (Mind Games/Argus Press)

It's the best around... The good 'feel' makes it worth playing again - especially if you like golf.

Frankie Goes To Hollywood (Ocean)

A great new game, re-mix and price... Enforced addiction - once you start, you won't wanna turn off.

Finders Keepers (Mastertronic)

Fabbo little game... Wonderful cartoon style, humorous animation and definition. There's plenty to see, do and work out.

MiG Alley Ace (US Gold)

Convincing planes, a nice array of options with one or two player head-to-head... Rather limited with blocky, slow graphics.

Skyfox (Ariolasoft/Electronic Arts)

The best 3D shoot-'em-up available. Plenty of levels but the same old aliens may pall.

Encounter (Novagen)

A brilliant shoot-'em-up... A below average price for an above average game.

Kayak (Creative Sparks)

A simplified, but fun Pole Position variant.

Velnor's Lair (Atlantis Gold)

One that I recommend for the budding Wizard, rather than a seasoned and very wise one such as myself.

Out On A Limb (Anirog)

Not exactly one of the best versions of this type of game... It's cheap, but not quite cheap enough.

Monster Trivia (US Gold)

The graphics aren't that bad, and the sound is quite good, it's just the game itself that needs a fair bit of Anglicising.

Rescue On Fractalus (Activision)

Enjoyable, exciting and addictive... There's plenty of challenge and the multitude of levels should keep advanced players happy.

Ian Botham's Test Match (Tynesoft)

Small and indistinct graphics and overpriced for what it offers... Fans of the game will probably find it boring.

Graham Gooch's Test Cricket (Audiogenic)

A good cricket simulation. Level nine of the computer is a real toughie.

Kennedy Approach (US Gold/Micropress)

Specialist appeal maybe, but five airports should keep you going for ages. Certainly the best of its kind to date.

The Great American Cross-Country Road (Activision)

May be discarded as just another race game, but it's something race fans should at least take a look at.

Merlin (Creative Sparks)

The graphics and sound are below average and even at its price, it doesn't really compete with other games far better and cheaper.
