The Black Squid (Channel 8) (Commodore Vic 20)
The graphics are reasonable but the sound is poor - a bloop-bloop noise for the chasing squid but your players make no noise at all. On the whole, a poor program.
Centipede (Atarisoft) (Commodore Vic 20)
Centipede is a good one or two player game with well-defined graphics and good clear sound.
Chopper (Sumlock) (Commodore Vic 20)
The game is not enjoyable at all because you can not move and fire at the same time. Poor sound, too.
Defender (Atarisoft) (Commodore Vic 20)
Well-defined graphics and good-quality sound make full use of the Vic's limited memory, and it's on cartridge too.
Destroyer (Sumlock) (Commodore Vic 20)
The graphics are pretty crude; the sound and colours not all that bad. But I'm sure that Sumlock could have at least disabled the Commodore and Shift key.
Hell Gate (Llamasoft) (Commodore Vic 20)
Quite a good game for the zap freak, as you'd expect from this marque.
Note Invaders (Chalksoft) (Commodore 64)
Should appeal to all ages - in fact, anyone contemplating learning music or perhaps an instrument.
The Catch (Bubble Bus) (Commodore Vic 20)
Most arcade aficionados with an unexpanded machine could find this a worthwhile bet, especially if competing against a friend.
Sword Of Hrakel (Romik) (Commodore Vic 20)
Another Romik text adventure - one for the long winter evenings, I think. Its programmer has sense of humour too.
Xeno II (Anirog) (Commodore Vic 20)
The sound effects are adequate and the program will certainly give you a good workout.
Zorgon's Kingdom (Romik) (Commodore Vic 20)
The graphics are quite good though the sonics are only moderate. More difficult than it seems at first.
Aaargh! Condor (Games Machine) (Commodore 64)
The graphics and sound for this single scene are very good... The main criticism is that only a single scene is provided compared with the many multi-framed graphic adventures now available.
Bonka (J Morrison Micros) (Commodore 64)
Large-size graphics and hall of fame are plus features; and if you're interested the screen is pink.
Bumping Buggies (Bubble Bus) (Commodore 64)
A title-screen theme tune coupled with good sound effects, along with the ability to develop a dab hand throughout some complex circuits with the sense of 'going somewhere', mark this as one of the better games.
Centropods (Rabbit) (Commodore 64)
On the whole, a worthy attempt at diversifying a familiar them with all the usual problems still facing the player.
Conflict (Martech) (Commodore 64)
The game has enough variables affecting decision making to keep the most argent empire-builder scratching his/her head well into the night.
Cybermen (J Morrison Micros) (Commodore 64)
Avoid bullets, and it's a big no-no to touch the walls. Also features a Hall of Fame.
Cyclons (Rabbit) (Commodore 64)
Overall, the graphics and sound effects are adequate but not stunning. Enjoyable game, though.
Damsel In Distress (Alligata) (Commodore 64)
Colours and sound are good but movement is slow and jerky.
3D Tanx (DK'Tronics) (Commodore 64)
Although it is a simple game, I enjoyed it thoroughly. I think there is an urge in us all to wreak havoc and destruction, and this game provides a good outlet!
Embassy Assault (DK'Tronics) (Commodore 64)
The only variety is in the shirt colour changing and the overall speeding up as you get more points. I also found it becoming tedious after a while.
Flying Feathers (Bubble Bus) (Commodore 64)
Eight levels of skill, a high-score table and competent sound effects: not enough variation of play, however. That all makes this a game directed at the juniors.
Hunchback (Ocean) (Commodore 64)
Animation and graphics are superb all the family will thoroughly enjoy Hunchback.
Bridge 64 Vs. Bridgemaster (Commodore 64)
Handic's Bridge 64 is one for the more experienced. Having said that, we still learnt a lot from Bridgemaster; and overall we preferred that package.
Nightmare Park (A R Software) (Commodore 64)
Graphics, animation and sound are not very impressive. The game is only likely to appeal to the younger punter who is usually less daunted by this more elementary form of games programming.
Neptune's Daughters (English) (Commodore 64)
I never got to see even one of Neptune's daughters, but the graphics are superb.
The Quest Of Merravid (Martech) (Commodore 64/Vic 20)
All the ingredients of the enjoyable adventure appear to be present.
Zappy Zooks (Romik) (Commodore 64)
No marks for originality: but not a bad version of an arcade classic.
The Commodore 64 Program Book (Phoenix) (Commodore 64)
Twenty-five programs for less than the price of a normal commercial program is good value; and somebody learning programming could take them apart one by one to reach a good understanding of many Basic concepts.
The Personal Computer Handbook (Dorling Kindersley) (Commodore 64)
Good book, shame about the price (and the defunct computers).
The Commodore 64 Handbook (Century) (Commodore 64)
You can't use this as a genuine handbook. As an intro, it'll do as well as any until something really good comes along.
