A four-pack of unreleased games that don't compare well with the rest of Hewson's achievements.
Aliens US Version (Alternative)
There's a nice variety of game types on offer here, with left/right scrolling, plan view and point-of-view styles all making an appearance. Splattering good fun.
A fairly naff film conversion - none of the sub-games are any good, and there's not a trace of humour to be seen. What a disappointment!
Hardly the most accurate management sim, but with enough atmosphere and playability to keep you happy.
Frankenstein Jr. (Cartoon Time)
The gameplay doesn't hold up here. You can't kill any of the nasties, and they can catch up with you and kill you all too easily, which rather mucks up the arcade adventure aspect of the game.
This sort of collection is so frustrating. How much would it cost to program these games properly, instead of disinterring terrible old versions from the distant past? In short, aaaarrrggh!
Ridiculously poor. It's been programmed by people who haven't a clue what they're talking about.
Not a particularly brilliant beat-'em-up, but die-hards and fans of the comic books should like it.
Fantasy World Dizzy (Codemasters)
The graphics are appropriately clear and decorative, and while the game hardly pushes back any great barriers it's still a highly enjoyable romp.
A real corker! One of the best flight sims around, incredibly pretty, full of things to do - the lack of dogfighting doesn't hamper things a bit.
Fruit Machine Simulator 2 (Codemasters)
A perfect budget release - it doesn't do anything new, but what it does, it does brilliantly.
A tad primitive to look at of course, but the management stuff is spot-on. Worth your readies.
Control is, well, different, and so not especially user-friendly, and even the best-tempered players will bridle when, after the inevitable failure, your only reward is a rather snotty letter from Lissa.
Nothing revolutionary or amazing but it's a jolly wizard blast for all that. Not a bad one to be remembered for, Firebird.
The Plagues Of Egypt (Michael Young)
I wanted to like it more (honest), and it's still better than a bite on the bum from a plague of locusts, but basically a standard no-frills and few-thrills game.
It's all very straightforward but, for a simple runaround, this is niftily programmed and very jolly to play - perfect cheapie fare.
Pub Trivia Simulator (Codemasters)
Controls are excellent, graphics pleasantly slick, and the design works very well, but dedicated quiznuts will be disappointed at the standard of the questions.
If you like your adventures to be state-of-the-art then this ain't that, but it's still well put together and entertains while it lasts.
If you hate cute platform games you'll loathe it, but if you like them you'll think it's the best game you've ever played (or as near as dammit).
Rallycross Simulator (Codemasters)
If you liked Grand Prix Simulator - and millions did! - and you don't mind playing the same game all over again (with slightly larger circuits), then Rally Cross Simulator is a must-buy.
An odd title that may appeal to football management sim fans, rather than arcadesters. Essentially, we're talking Very Limited Appeal. Indeed.
Strategic thinking is just as important as speed of reaction here, and the whole caboodle scrolls smoothly in eight satisfying directions.
An extremely dull game - it's just old Tarz running through the jungle trying not to get lost or killed. There's a bit of fighting in here but otherwise not much to keep the pecker up - not even Lady Jane Greystoke!
It's nice to see more professionally-produced wargames, but whether this'll convert anyone to the cause is another matter.
A simple chaseabout enlivened only by Vixen's skill with a whip. This game goes nowhere in a pretty but unmemorable sort of way. If there isn't even a giant poster of whateverhernamewas with her bits poking out, there really isn't much point in it all any more.
Ho hum. Yet another beat-'em-up with absolutely nothing new or interesting to offer. Sorry, I just didn't like it.
A few low platforms, make the game more than one-dimensional, and the whole shebang has been executed with great care and a certain style... Neat for sprogs, and not bad for older gamesters either.
Don't be deceived by the lack of arcade action and colourful graphics - Zombi is an addictive and enjoyable romp.
