Gunship (Microprose) (Commodore 64)
The US Army says that, should it ever some to war, it expects the Apache to kill fourteen tanks for each helicopter lost. Gunship is about as close as you will ever get to finding out if that is true. It comes with my highest recommendation.
A bit like Sorcery in atmosphere and Sabre Wulf in gameplay... You shouldn't fail to add Feud to your collection now!
Greyfell (Starlight Software) (Spectrum 48K/128K)
Very mappable, extremely playable and very addictive, Greyfell is quite simply the cat's whiskers.
Shockway Rider (Faster Than Light) (Spectrum 48K)
Gory in places, Shockway Rider could just be the computer game equivalent of a 2000AD comic strip. But it also has the humour of those strips which makes it even more playable.
Mutants (Ocean) (Commodore 64/128)
Mutants is different and difficult to classify but if you are a fan of Denton games, and this is pretty typical of their style, combining strategy and quick thinking, it's well worth a look.
Star Raiders II (Atarisoft) (Atari XE/XL)
Graphics may be a bit blocky but the way a fighter is winged and spins off into a big explosion shows the Atari graphics at their very best.
West Bank (Gremlin Graphics) (Commodore 64/128)
Excellent fun and excellent value. There's real tension in the air as you wait for the door to swing open.
MGT (Loriciels) (Amstrad CPC464)
Another very playable, well designed, and graphically pleasing isometric arcade adventure from the Loriciel stable.
Brian Clough's Football Fortunes (CDS Microsystems) (Spectrum 48K)
A winning idea - quick to play and simple to understand.
The Double (Scanatron) (Commodore 64/128)
The Double is too ambitious on details and too tedious on everything else, which is possibly why they claim that being a manager takes 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It certainly seemed like it with this game.
Aliens: US Version (Activision) (Commodore 64)
Although no one of the six games in Aliens US Version is as involved or challenging as the single game in the European version, as a collection on one disk there is sufficient variation, challenge, and gameplay, to keep most gamers happy and frustrated for many a long night.
Leviathan (English) (Commodore 64/128)
Leviathan ranks high in the first division of space shoot-'em-ups.
Double Take (Ocean) (Spectrum 48K)
One of Ocean's best releases ever on the Spectrum, and will probably be the most imaginative and innovative game of the year.
Chameleon (Electric Dreams) (Commodore 64/128)
If you want a different sort of game then try this, but take a good look first.
Short Circuit (Ocean) (Amstrad CPC464)
The graphics are excellent - especially on the Amstrad - and the gameplay clever and absorbing... Go on, blow a fuse over Short Circuit.
Hive (Firebird) (Spectrum 48K)
Excellent gameplay and a mapper's delight. Enter the Hive and you're in an absorbing, sometimes frustrating, nightmare world of creepy-crawlies.
Bactron (Loriciels) (Amstrad CPC464)
Possibly the catchiest tune ever for the Amstrad, and the game isn't bad either.
Krakout (Gremlin Graphics) (Commodore 64/128)
An excellent and absurdly addictive game. You just won't be able to resist going for another brick in the wall.
Bride Of Frankenstein (Ariolasoft) (Amstrad CPC464)
Definitely one that all arcade adventure lovers should check out and promises to be a reasonable challenge to all mapping addicts.
Shanghai (Activision) (Commodore 64)
Anyone who likes board or card games, or who enjoys giving the old grey matter a touch of overtime, will not be disappointed with this one.
Nuclear Countdown (Atlantis) (Spectrum 48K/128K)
Nuclear Countdown is a very good try at 3D and will keep a lot of Spectrum owners happy.
Never Mind The Nasties (Romantic Robot) (Amstrad CPC464/664)
Although the graphics and sound in the game are nothing special, it should appeal to many platform-, and some arcade-adventure-, buffs.
Xcel (Activision) (Spectrum 48K)
Well worth the asking price, and it will keep you amused for a few weeks at least.
Who Dares Wins (Alligata) (BBC Model B)
The graphics aren't too inspired, and the screen movement is a bit juddery. On the other hand, with a bit of patience and practice the game tends to grow on you.
Bar Billiards (Blue Ribbon) (BBC/Electron)
Bar Billiards is a weird game, but this is a pretty good simulation, and more entertaining than I thought it would be.
Condition Red (Blue Ribbon) (BBC/Electron)
The graphics are reasonably smooth, the screens look lively... and screen response to the keys is good.
W.A.R. (Martech) (BBC Model B)
It's well presented and challenging to play, but the 'window' idea doesn't really work. Nice try, but there just isn't enough room for the action to really open up.
180 (Mastertronic Added Dimension) (Commodore 64/128)
The games are played 'best out of three' style and if you win you will progress to the next stage. Amazing value. Miss it at your peril.
Skyhawk (Bug Byte) (BBC/Electron)
It looks promising to start with. But it's so slow, that it's just plain boring.
Jailbreak (Konami) (Spectrum 48K)
This'll bring tears to your eyes for all the wrong reasons. Yuk!
Escape From Singe's Castle (Software Projects) (Commodore 64)
A huge improvement over its predecessor. It has eight very good mini-games, great graphics and brilliant sound.
Masters Of The Universe: The Adventure (U. S. Gold) (BBC Model B)
Another excellent adventure from the Adventure Soft.
Rays (Tartan) (Spectrum 48K/128K)
I can't recommend this illogical mess. Save your pennies for a better game.
Escape From Khoshima (Atlantis) (Amstrad CPC464)
Not bad for the price, and should give some hours of play.
Necris Dome (Codemasters) (Commodore 64/128)
A strange game... It's devoid of background, logic, atmosphere, and mystery, I soon found it failed to hold me, and I lost any motivation to proceed further.
Growing Pains Of Adrian Mole (Virgin Games) (Spectrum 48K/128K)
It should please Mole fans everywhere - it is excellently produced and full of humour!
