3D Grand Prix - with a bit more fine-tuning - could be a great Amstrad game. But that naff sound... Yuk!

The attention to detail is good - and the game is fun to play.

Xcel is a really well presented game - one of the best on the shelves right now.

Guy In The Hat (Blue Ribbon) (BBC Model B)

A little like Banana Man but it's more difficult to play. That's actually an improvement, and the enemies are much more fun - and harder to avoid - too.

Darts (Blue Ribbon) (BBC Model B)

It might not be what Eric Bristow would expect, but this is an interesting and varied game you'll keep returning to.

An extremely well programmed, well presented game - don't be put off by those who tell you it's just another platform game. It isn't - it's something else!

Southern Belle (Hewson Consultants) (Amstrad CPC464)

A fairly complex game to get to grips with, but if you're a steam train freak, you'll love it.

Slapshot (Anirog) (Amstrad CPC464)

A good representation of the rough, tough and dangerous world of ice hockey. And the Amstrad version of Slapshot has a one and two player option too!

Impossible Mission (U. S. Gold) (Spectrum 48K)

A game any self-respecting Spectrum owner should have in their collection. We defy you not to be hooked from the moment you load it.

William Wobbler (Wizard) (Commodore 64/128)

A game which is more arcade than adventure, since considerable joystick skills are required before you can hope to succeed in unravelling the clues!

The controls are simple enough - it's choosing the right split second to change direction and move down another tunnel that's so difficult.

An intriguing and complex game based on a new and refreshing idea. A winner.

Rupert And The Ice Palace (Quicksilva) (Commodore 64)

Don't be put off having a look at it because you think Rupert is an old sissy. The game is fun in its own right.

Rupert And The Toymaker's Party (Quicksilva) (Spectrum 48K)

A platform style arcade adventure. Originally for the C64, it's the type of game that worked on that machine but the Spectrum conversion doesn't really work.

Chimera (Firebird) (Amstrad CPC464)

An excellent game which raises the quality of budget games to a new standard.

Shadow Of The Unicorn (Mikro-Gen) (Spectrum 48K)

With Christmas coming up, put this on your shopping list immediately.

Riddler's Den (Electric Dreams) (Spectrum 48K)

A good debut for Electric Dreams - not terrifically original but a high quality product.

Fight Night (U. S. Gold) (Commodore 64)

A boxing bout that'll keep you on your toes and have you rolling in the aisles at the same time.

Screwball (Blue Ribbon) (BBC Model B)

Based on the principle of jumping about from square to square changing the colour of the square as you go. Simple, but reasonably entertaining.

Elite (Firebird) (Spectrum 48K/128K)

A game that no-one who owns a computer should be without. Buy it and you probably won't be seen for six months.

Scarabaeus (Ariolasoft) (Commodore 64)

A challenge for the thoughtful gamers who likes a mixture of action and strategy... Ariolasoft's best yet.

Super Zaxxon (Sega) (Commodore 64)

The long awaited sequel to the all time classic arcade game Zaxxon. Unfortunately, the original classic conversion is better.

Hypersports (Imagine) (Spectrum 48K)

Terrific sound, and music... plus brilliant graphics which are almost as good as the arcades.

Summer Games II (Epyx) (Commodore 64/128)

This is a great game, especially the high-jump, triple jump and javelin... Up to eight people can play and presentation is superb.

Winter Games (Epyx) (Commodore 64/128)

Superb graphics, good instructions - not guesswork or trial and error. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Daley Thompson's Super Test (Ocean) (Spectrum 48K/128K)

It's a shame that the written instructions are poor, and you don't get enough time to choose things. Great fun with a lot of events at a reasonable price.
