An original idea for a strategy game with a good computer opponent.

Martianoids (Ultimate)

Ultimate is still skilled at doing 3D graphics.

Ballblazer (Activision/Lucasfilm)

Excellent for those who like two-player games, but don't bank on the computer for a fair fight.

Curse Of Sherwood (Mastertronic)

The graphics are reminiscent of Firelord and superficially so is the gameplay.

Solar Coaster (Optyx)

Quite addictive... One of the few shoot-'em-ups which really tax me.

Grand Prix Simulator (Codemasters)

You always come back for more and, although it's hard to believe at first, you do get the hang of the controls and gradually learn how to master the tracks.

Shao-Lin's Road (The Edge)

Pleasant backgrounds with large, animated characters, but the game lacks originality and sparkle.

Prohibition (Infogrames)

A marvellously slick arcade challenge where the good guys may not always get to win, but the bad guys always have massive losses.

Rasterscan (Mastertronic)

It's quite stunning for a budget game and is worth £2 of anyone's money to experience it.

An original idea... Colourful and varied courses with tough qualifying times.

A good follow-up to Super Robin Hood, but not as playable.

Shoot-'em-up fans will find it frustrating and awkward controls don't help.

Sailing (Activision)

Slow, uninteresting action means it doesn't have very wide appeal.

Nether Earth (Argus Press)

Although it's slow-moving, there is an enjoyable element of puzzling.

The graphics are superb with big, colourful sprites for all the vehicles and explosions.

Shadows Of Mordor (Melbourne House)

Persistence in communication usually pays off, and provided a character is friendly he will do as you ask.

Escape From Khoshima (Atlantis)

Quite harmless, has some rather too obvious puzzles, and will give you as much value for your money as any other loose-change purchase I've played to date.

This game has a ring of innocence and originality about it that I very much enjoyed.
