Railroad Tycoon (Microprose)

Not a game for the faint-hearted or those who like quick starts. Your time and effort investment will be well rewarded, however, when you will find a hugely enjoyable, complex and fascinating game lurking beneath its accountant's exterior.

Boston Bomb Club (Silmarils)

An excellent example of how a simple concept can be made more interesting, but it's not going to win any awards.

Not quite another Tetris, but does deserve to become a minor classic.

International Championship Athletics (Hawk)

Features very little of the polished presentation found in the Epyx Games series. If you want playability, and a slick appearance you'd be better off with Games Summer Edition.

Pit-Fighter (Domark)

Fewer moves than IK+ Karate, and just not responsive or playable enough to give that game much of a run for its money.

Exile (Audiogenic)

A masterpiece - there's no other word for it.

Z-Out (Rainbow Arts)

Bears a striking resemblance to R-Type - but this has smaller graphics, much poorer sound and none of the excitement.

Thunderhawk AH-73M (Core)

Six missions may not sound very many, but each mission has at least six separate parts and you won't find any of them too easy. The fantastic smoothness of the graphics is a bonus.

Zone Warrior (Electronic Arts)

Dull, terminally unimaginative graphics in a very small playing area. Only the most bloody-minded will ever bother to reach level two... and it isn't worth the effort.

European Superleague (CDS)

Blah, this could easily be renamed John Harvey Jones' Industrial Management Training Course (Parts 1-22B) for all the excitement it delivers.

Monster Business (Eclipse)

Sometimes simple ideas make the best games, but in this case the idea is just too simple. Still, it's fun for a while.

Doctor Fox's 1991 Football Annual (Unknown)

A massive database specifically tailored for footy fans to enter all the results from matches by one or more teams over a season, and then make predictions based on their past performance.

Grandstand (Domark)

Asking someone to pay £30 for a collection of ropey has-beens and never-wares is a bit of a cheek.

Home Casino Poker Etc (Dubl Dubl Funware)

Each game is presented with clear, colourful card graphics and some effort has been made to make screens of text options look interesting.

Manchester United Europe (Krisalis)

An average game with nothing much to recommend it but nothing to criticise it for either.

The Adventures Of Maddog Williams In The Dungeons Of Duridian (Game Crafters)

This is terrible. Graphics are simple shapes with a few blotches of colour, and looks they were done on a Spectrum. Animation isn't much better: Maddog walks like he has some serious personal problems!
