Knockout (The Software House) (BBC Model A & B)
It sounds quite simple, but you need to be quick with your actions or you'll never go far enough to get through all the walls to hear the magic sound telling you that you've broken out.
The Wizard (Quicksilva) (BBC Model B)
The game isn't particularly fast, but a fair degree of skill is needed to survive for any length of time.
Educational 1 (Golem) (BBC/Electron)
The programs on the tape were good, but I felt that the maths ones could have been improved by adding a system of correction which would actually help the child learn by his mistakes.
Skowsh (Viking) (BBC Model A & B)
It's cheap. It's dull. There are ten possible speeds, but at high speed the graphics are very jerky and the ball seems to bounce before it has made contact with the wall or a bat.
Countdown To Doom (Acornsoft) (BBC Model B)
Rather dumb... We typed EXPLODE DOOR and received the reply "What do you want me to do with the explode?"
Roadrunner (A 'n F) (BBC Model A & B)
A game rushed to the market without adequate testing. Animation is slow and jerky. Avoid.
Secta Invaders (Secta) (BBC Model B)
Well-produced and good value for money... But annoying to have to sit through ten seconds of whining and flashing after each laser is destroyed before another is ready for use.
Crunch (Oxhey Tutors) (BBC Model A & B)
Offers enough variation and challenge to make it a very useful educational tool.
Junior Maths Pack (Micro Power) (BBC Model A & B)
Not one of the best educational tapes I have seen. The graphics used in all the programs were fairly basic and the programs themselves suffered accordingly.
Croaker (Micro Power) (BBC Model B)
The closest that a program has come to the original... Good value for money.
Link 4 Plus (ABC) (BBC Model A & B)
An entertaining program. The rules are simple, but moves can involve considerable thought.
EDG Graphics Package (Salamander) (BBC Model B)
One of the better drawing utilities available for the BBC... Could have benefitted from a 'Help' command which showed you the action of the commands.
Galactic Commander (Micro Power) (BBC Model B)
The variety between levels keeps the game fresh and the humorous notes that preface each level add a touch of light relief.
Starship Command (Acornsoft) (BBC Model B)
Certainly offers a challenge but frustrating in places, especially when running for my life and avoiding the enemies' missiles, only to have some incompetent starship captain run straight into me.
BBC Music Processor (Quicksilva) (BBC Model A & B)
A very good package and a must for anyone musically minded with a BBC Micro.
The Hobbit: Another Adventure? (BBC B/B+/Master 128)
Given a little more attention to detail, Ikon could have a real winner on their hands... The price is right and the Hobbit Operation System is flexible enough to satisfy the market for which it has been designed.
