Top-notch beat-'em-up action! There's also a choice of three characters to control, and two-player 'practice mode'.
Tony La Russa's Ultimate Baseball (SSI/US Gold)
Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the realism, but it's frustratingly difficult to hit the ball. And the whole game is marred by slowness.
Unrealistic and unplayable... If you really want to kick something, I suggest booting this slow, woefully inaccurate simulation into touch.
A radical improvement on the movie... Nice loading screen, reasonable multi-load within levels, good level-complete pics and extra life at the end of each level.
With the inclusion of the classic Turrican II and two other very good titles, you certainly get max value for money. Without doubt the weakest of the compilation's four titles is St Dragon.
The Rainbow Collection (Addicted To Fun)
With two Zzap Gold Medals and a Zzap Sizzler, this is a compilation of real quality... A joy to play.
Test Drive 2: The Collection (Accolade)
A good value-for-money compilation for the car freak.
Four of the titles (Ghouls 'N Ghosts, LED Storm, Forgotten Worlds and Strider) were featured on the Platinum Collection so think about this compilation before parting with your dosh.
Axe is the real star here, but Super Monaco GP and Crackdown are strong supporting acts even if the dire E-Swat and oft-rereleased Shinobi aren't!.
A technically competent platform game... What's there isn't bad, but it's been done too many times before.
Very familiar, unrewarding beat-'em-up action beaten up by lack of gameplay.
This straightorward shoot-'em-up works reasonably well - even if it looks like something from 1986.
No thanks. A totally predictable yawn-fest that I doubt you'll load twice.
Gut-wrenching humour, linearity, poor puzzle design and offensive responses put the dampeners on a potentially good game.
A disappointing conversion. It's very easy to get into but the multi-load soon becomes irritating due to the short levels.
Gateway To The Savage Frontier (SSI/US Gold)
A solid RPG system which is nevertheless looking increasingly aged with each successive release.
This is unmissable...! Technically stunning, extremely playable heavy metal arcade action!
Smash TV grabs you by the throat and just won't let go - how Ocean managed to get all of this into one load is beyond me.
Turtles II: The Coin-Op Game (Mirrorsoft)
One helluva game! The title and incidental music is incredible, and those effects - er, wow! The sprites are well drawn and brilliantly animated... Just a shame the two-player mode does not allow simultaneously play.
If you want a true RPG, try some of the other SSI AD&D titles; if you want a hack-'em-up, there are plenty better than this hotchpotch.
If you've missed this so far, then you must be mad - restore your sanity and get it today!
If only the pace built up more gradually, Stack Up would be a superb puzzler. As it is, it's still very addictive but also rather frustrating.
With eight levels of playable blasting action, X-Out is well worth a look... The only slight niggle is the need to reload the shop after dying on the first level.
