You are a highly trained Galactic Commando, deep in enemy territory. Power-hungry leaders of the repressive Bungeling Empire have stolen a fortune in gold from the peace-loving people, and you have just discovered their secret underground treasury. Your goal?
To recover every last ingot of Bungeling booty. You'll be running, jumping and climbing heroically, solving perplexing puzzles and drilling passageways through stone floors and barriers using your laser drill pistol. You'll need more than fleet feet and good looks to get through this mission alive. You'll need quick wits and brains!
Lode Runner is more than a fast action game. It's a game generator that lets you design your own puzzles and scenes. You can move, add and take away countless ladders, floors, trap doors, crossbars, gold chests and Bungeling enemies. It's easy and there's no end to the variations, challenge and fun.
When you are presented with the menu screen:

All keys auto-repeat for ease of designing.
Please note that only five baddies are allowed on screen at any one time. When you have finished customizing your screen, press ESCAPE to return to the main menu.
When you first load your program you will have the first 40 screens in memory. The other 120 screens are saved in blocks of 40 on side two of the cassette. If you complete the first 40 screens, the computer will prompt you to turn the tape over and load the next set of screens (Your high score and remaining men will be transferred automatically). However, if you just want to play the other screens, your high score will be set to zero again.
You can load any of the 40 screen blocks by selecting 3 from the menu screen and following the prompts.
To save your design for future use, place a blank cassette in your recorder, making sure it is wound forward enough to pass the leader, press key 4 and simply follow the prompts.
Have fun!
