All things considered, with the difficult nature of the conversion, Activision have done a sterling job in retaining all the original features - and the two player mode makes for a very neat conversion.

This may be a slightly disappointing game for those who played the arcade predecessor but quite an interesting romp for anybody new to the game. Don't be put off by the screen shots, it plays a whole lot better than it looks.

A gleefully spiteful game and really quite addictive.

It's not a game of incredible depth; but, then again, it's surely one which will keep you occupied for weeks on end.

An enjoyable romp, and an excellent venture into an untapped field.

Shufflepuck Cafe (Re-spray) (Re-spray) (Amiga 500)

It's fun to play, and it can be quite addictive, but only for a short while. It's a game which would have benefitted from a two-player option.

Xenon II (Image Works) (Amiga 500)

This is impressive stuff - it's what you bought an Amiga for.

Battle Valley (Hewson Consultants) (Amiga 500)

I can't help feeling that the grey installations and the slow speed of play make it a dour game to look at. An impression only compounded by the end screen - a mushroom cloud. All a bit depressing really.

Action Fighter (Firebird) (Amiga 500)

A fun game, and one well worth getting hold of if you just want something fast and destructive.

Dynamite Dux (Activision) (Amiga 500)

A game which sports great graphics and sound... It's an accurate conversion but, unfortunately, the original arcade game wasn't too hot to start with.

Pro Tennis Tour (Ubisoft) (Amiga 500)

Great fun, and well worth checking out.

APB (Domark) (Commodore 64)

A nice game idea, poorly executed. A bit more of mom's love and care next time, perhaps?

Bloodwych (Image Works) (Amiga 500)

Deep, involving and highly competitive, whether one or two players are playing.

Tusker (System 3) (Commodore 64)

An enjoyable enough romp, but nothing really outstanding.

May not be a name that will be on the lips of our tongues in five years time, but for the moment it sure seems stunning.

A poor product. Maybe it was strong at time of release, but then again that was a while ago.

The scrolling is unbelievably slow, the update is appalling, there's no sense of speed at all, response time is disgusting and basically it's a mess from start to finish.

Soldier Of Light (Rad) (Commodore 64/128)

A true bastardisation of what was a fun coin-op.

Populous: The Promised Lands (Electronic Arts) (Amiga 500)

A definite purchase for anybody who bought and enjoyed the original Populous.

Faery Tale (Micro Illusions) (Commodore 64)

I love it to bits, and it looks like I'm going to love it for quite a while yet.

Shinobi (Virgin/Mastertronic) (Commodore 64/128)

If they could just correct that little playability bug, it would be a better conversion.

Passing Shot (Imageworks) (Amiga 500)

A hundred and seventy-five pounds for a console and a copy of the game might seem like poor value for money, but it can't be any more outrageous than this.

Space Quest 3: The Pirates Of Pestulon (Sierra) (Amiga 500)

Undoubtedly the best Space Quest yet.

If a light-hearted haunted house thriller appeals to you, you'll certainly enjoy this.
