Altered Beast (Activision) (Amiga 500)
All things considered, with the difficult nature of the conversion, Activision have done a sterling job in retaining all the original features - and the two player mode makes for a very neat conversion.
Altered Beast (Activision) (Commodore 64)
This may be a slightly disappointing game for those who played the arcade predecessor but quite an interesting romp for anybody new to the game. Don't be put off by the screen shots, it plays a whole lot better than it looks.
Continental Circus (Virgin Games) (Amiga 500)
An excellent conversion and a brilliant driving game with enough variation between tracks to keep you playing for ages.
Lancaster (Actual Screenshots) (Amiga 500)
A worthy game for all shoot-'em-up and simulation freaks.
Iron Lord (Ubisoft) (Amiga 500)
It's not a game of incredible depth; but, then again, it's surely one which will keep you occupied for weeks on end.
Buffalo Bill's Wild West Rodeo Games (Tynesoft) (Amiga 500)
An enjoyable romp, and an excellent venture into an untapped field.
Shufflepuck Cafe (Re-spray) (Re-spray) (Amiga 500)
It's fun to play, and it can be quite addictive, but only for a short while. It's a game which would have benefitted from a two-player option.
Battle Valley (Hewson Consultants) (Amiga 500)
I can't help feeling that the grey installations and the slow speed of play make it a dour game to look at. An impression only compounded by the end screen - a mushroom cloud. All a bit depressing really.
Action Fighter (Firebird) (Amiga 500)
A fun game, and one well worth getting hold of if you just want something fast and destructive.
Dynamite Dux (Activision) (Amiga 500)
A game which sports great graphics and sound... It's an accurate conversion but, unfortunately, the original arcade game wasn't too hot to start with.
A nice game idea, poorly executed. A bit more of mom's love and care next time, perhaps?
Bloodwych (Image Works) (Amiga 500)
Deep, involving and highly competitive, whether one or two players are playing.
Kingdoms Of England (Incognito) (Amiga 500)
All in all, a right royal effort. All together now, three cheers for the King!
Shadow Of The Beast (Psygnosis) (Amiga 500)
May not be a name that will be on the lips of our tongues in five years time, but for the moment it sure seems stunning.
Fire Power (Microillusions) (Commodore 64/128)
All in all, a game with a lot of potential but very little of it is used.
Alien Syndrome (Rad) (Commodore 64/128)
Some of the sprites are a little blocky, but the game as a whole most definitely has all the atmosphere of the original.
Bombjack 2 (Encore) (Commodore 64/128)
A poorly design game. There are only two screens, one really easy, and the other amazingly difficult.
Deep Strike (Encore) (Commodore 64/128)
A poor product. Maybe it was strong at time of release, but then again that was a while ago.
Turbo Esprit (Encore) (Commodore 64/128)
The scrolling is unbelievably slow, the update is appalling, there's no sense of speed at all, response time is disgusting and basically it's a mess from start to finish.
Populous: The Promised Lands (Electronic Arts) (Amiga 500)
A definite purchase for anybody who bought and enjoyed the original Populous.
Faery Tale (Micro Illusions) (Commodore 64)
I love it to bits, and it looks like I'm going to love it for quite a while yet.
Shinobi (Virgin/Mastertronic) (Commodore 64/128)
If they could just correct that little playability bug, it would be a better conversion.
Passing Shot (Imageworks) (Amiga 500)
A hundred and seventy-five pounds for a console and a copy of the game might seem like poor value for money, but it can't be any more outrageous than this.
Space Quest 3: The Pirates Of Pestulon (Sierra) (Amiga 500)
Undoubtedly the best Space Quest yet.
