Gauntlet II (U. S. Gold) (Amiga 500)
Since the first Gauntlet has never been available on the Amiga, this is the obvious choice if you want to buy one definitive arcade D&D game on 16-bit. For unabashed playability and downright fun, Gauntlet II is unbeatable.
LED Storm (Capcom) (Commodore 64)
Little more than the old vertical scrolling buggy race with some nice scenery. Some great music livens things up a bit.
F16 Falcon (Mirrorsoft) (Amiga 500)
Packed with depth... I simply don't have room to tell you just how good it is.
Operation Wolf (Ocean) (Amiga 500)
Both addictive and compelling. Shame about all the disk swapping but, Ocean say, that was the only way you could have the whole game.
R-Type (Electric Dreams) (Commodore 64/128)
It's addictive and it'll keep you coming back for a while, particularly if you're a disk user, but the multi-load won't.
California Games (Epyx) (Amiga 500)
A good laugh. The Amiga can't really make much more of the original C64 version though so, to buy it, you'd either have to be a relative of The Beach Boys, or just simply very rich.
Rocket Ranger (Cinemaware) (Commodore 64/128)
Another Cinemaware turbo-charged deluxe model, which deserves all the credit it should get!
Wec Le Mans (Imagine) (Commodore 64)
This is one of the worst racing games ever to hit the C64. A worse conversion than Out Run. It's one of the worst full price releases I've seen on the C64.
Turbo Cup (Loriciel) (Amiga 500)
It'll probably be very popular with ardent fans of racing games but it didn't hold my interest for long.
Hell Bent (Novagen Software Ltd) (Amiga 500)
This is a terrible game. Boring graphics, sad sound and an almost complete lack of any playability or addictiveness.
20,000 Leagues Under The Sea (Coktel Vision) (Amiga 500)
A very good game that is spoiled by long waits and the lack of a save option.
Galactic Conqueror (Titus) (Amiga 500)
A complete waste of time, not representing anything other than a pretty useless disc.
TV Sports Football (Mirrorsoft) (Amiga 500)
A most definite thumbs up to the best American Football sim I have ever seen.
Purple Saturn Day (Exxos) (Amiga 500)
The graphics are excellent throughout: sharp, well-defined and with a singularly deranged Gallic flavour all of their own.
The Legend Of Blacksilver (Epyx) (Commodore 64)
What can I say? It's as good as it was last time I played it. I don't think changing the names and sticking a picture of David Essex's head on Arnold Schwarzenegger's body on the pack makes a new game of it.
Menace (Psyclapse) (Commodore 64)
The C64 graphics are a treat, particularly the destruction sequence at the end of each level. But my criticism with this is that it's on the slow side, and it lacks the kind of excitement that has you on the edge of your seat trying to snap the joystick in half.
Heroes Of The Lance (Strategic Simulations Inc) (Amiga 500)
Not only have US Gold maanged to capture all the feel of D&D they've also come up with a damn fine game.
Powerplay Hockey (Electronic Arts) (Commodore 64/128)
The sound is bad. The graphics is too. Often, you are scrolled off the screen. I can't see Powerplay Hockey even appealing to ice hockey fans.
World Games (Kixx) (Commodore 64/128)
Good at full price, a gem on budget. The multiload does put a small dampner on it, but not enough to completely quench it.
Golf Master (Rack-It) (Commodore 64/128)
Boring. A prize goes to the first person who can sit through more than four of these holes.
Pasteman Pat (Silverbird) (Commodore 64/128)
Nice idea, though the novelty wears off fairly quickly.
Antiriad (Silverbird) (Commodore 64/128)
Wonderful aliens, well-defined sprites, smooth animation and stacks of playability will have you coming back for more.
Gribbly's Special Day Out (Rack-It) (Commodore 64/128)
An old game, and one that shows it. Gameplay is diverting briefly, but it's all over too soon.
Zamzara (Rack-It) (Commodore 64/128)
Written by Jukka Tapanimaki, the author of Netherworld and with some pretty fabbo tunes by those Maniacs of Noise boys Zamzara is amazing to play.
Infiltrator (Kixx) (Commodore 64/128)
It's multi-load, but it's fun.
