Starting from where the Beginners Level Basic Tutorial left off this Advanced Level Tutorial will show you how to make full use of the complete range of Basic Language commands provided by your Dragon 32 microcomputer.
The three parts of the Tutorial build your knowledge of Basic Programming allowing you to write complex programs in Basic.
A Practical Session covering all of the Tutorial sections provides Programming Exercises, Examples and Solutions.
Cheshire Cat Advanced Level Basic Tutorial includes:
and a complete Practical session providing Exercises, Examples and Solutions.
Throughout the Tutorial instruction is complemented with examples and question/answer sessions. The Tutorial is divided into logical sections, each an ideal size for one study session. Any order of study may be selected, however later sections require knowledge gained from previous ones.
A facility to step forward or backward through the text and examples has been included.
Part 3 of the Tutorial is devoted entirely to Computer Graphics and includes sections on Drawing Shapes and Moving Pictures. A full section on Music and Noises has been included in Part 2.
The Practical Session includes Exercises to practise the rules learnt in the Tutorial, each exercise being self-contained and when necessary a working example of the solution is given.
After the Advanced Level Basic Tutorial all you will need is practice to become an experienced programer on your Dragon.
The Advanced Basic Tutorial consists of four programs, one on each side of the two cassettes.
The Four parts are as follows:
Each part of the tutorial is divided into five or six self contained sections. Within each part of the tutorial, the section should be studied in sequence.
Tutorial Part 1 should be studied before Part 2 and Part 2 should be studied before Part 3.
Once you have completed a part of the tutorial, the sections may be studied again, in any order, for revision.
There is an exercise for each major heading within the three parts of the tutorial. The exercises can be attempted at any time after the related tutorial sections have been studied.
Each exercise is self-contained. Within an exercise you can step forwards or backwards through the problem by typing C for continue or B for Back. Typing S will take you to the solution and P will take you to the problem. To move on to the new exercise, you must first type O to take you back to the choice of options.
Try not to look at the solution until you have completed an exercise. All four programs have been written to show the best use of the colours available. Although not essential a colour television or monitor is desirable.
CLOAD (ENTER)
When the OK returns, type RUN (ENTER).
An introductory display will appear on your screen and the main program will automatically load and run. You may switch off your cassette recorder as soon as the main program is loaded and running.
The above instructions assume that your cassette recorder is automatically started and stopped by the Dragon computer. If this is not the case, stop the cassette as soon as the OK returns. Press Play again after RUN (ENTER).
The following utilities are also available to allow you to edit the supplied screens of this game:
