After the excellence of the Akom series of computer crosswords (The Times Computer Crosswords, etc), it's hard to see a market for similar software, unless it's better.
Sadly, this isn't. Oh, there's nothing wrong with it - it's competent enough, it has a nice cheat option, you're given a choice of quick and cryptic crosswords (24 in all) and there is even an option to prevent you entering wrong answers. It just doesn't inspire me.
I'm all for programmers (Tim Tanner here) producing their own material and the news that he's expecting to release on a vaguely monthly schedule shows confidence but this just doesn't work for me. Why not? Okay, what would you say was the most vital thing to get right in a computer crossword package? How about the graphics - the grids need to be at least twice the size they currently are. All one's energies go into trying to decipher this tiny crossword, instead of tackling the clues. Nice try but no prize.
