Worst Games Ever: PlayStation 4 (US Version)

Everygamegoing features 'Like' and 'Loathe' buttons on every game and, once a clear consensus as to what the worst games ever are for that particular format, I put together my considered opinion as to what makes those chosen games so incredibly bad.

Here I present the worst games ever for the PlayStation 4 (US Version), as chosen by you, the users of the site.

Job Simulator (2017)

2 loathes and counting...

What's The Deal?

A VR game in which you simulate working as a mechanic, a cook, an office worker and a store clerk. It's all done tongue-in-cheek with a cartoon-like quality to the graphics; and your colleagues and customers are invariably computer monitors with limbs.

What's The Problem?

The game is aimed at children, or adults with the minds of children, but was marketted as one of the first adult VR games. The 'challenges' in the jobs are vaguely humorous but quickly become repetitive. The four jobs presented are all you get, meaning the game is more of a gimmick that anything you'd ever return to for repeated play.

Summer Lesson: Hikari Miyamoto (2017)

1 loathes and counting...

What's The Deal?

A VR game in which you are a teacher charged with teaching and assessing an attractive young Japanese student. You get to go on dates with her too, in which she will dress in traditional clothes. She only speaks Japanese so be prepared to squint at the subtitles.

What's The Problem?

Firstly, what a weird 'game' this is...! Much of the time you merely sit, completely stationary, listening to your student, cute as she is, talking and talking and talking... Dating her is similar. There are some nice moments (watching the fireworks over Toyko is reasonably magical) but it's very difficult to understand who, precisely, is the intended audience for this game. As a red-blooded male, you want a lot more than to listen to your charge telling you how great you are, but at the same time the odd power relationship between the two of you feels embarrassingly creepy. The game feels like it wanted to be hentai but didn't dare.

The American Dream (2018)

1 loathes and counting...

What's The Deal?

A VR game in which you get to live the American Dream by 'ironically' shooting all manner of guns in a strange mix of scenarios.

What's The Problem?

The American Dream is almost like an overlong Tech Demo which arrived on the scene about two years too late. When there are VR games like Silent Hill, in which the guns are an inticate part of a compelling narrative, who on earth wants to fire guns to feed a baby or play a game of baseball with a cardboard cut-out of your dad?! There almost seems to be a strange political point to the game, which continually delivers the message that "guns are bad" whilst simultaneously encouraging you to use them - it's a very confusing playing experience indeed and it constantly removes any joy from each of the bizarre tasks you are given.
