Zodiac is a game for one player, or a group of players of all ages. All it requires is intelligence, cunning, slight insanity - and a 48K Oric 1.
You will also need plenty of time, from maybe five hours for a seasoned adventurer to fifty hours for beginners!
There's no problem though, because you can save the game at any point to continue at a later date. The game has lots of music, sound effects and colour and is an ideal educational aid for younger children.
The object of the game is to find treasures. In fact, there are six treasures to be located, and these must be returned home as soon as possible. It is up to you to find out what they are and where to leave them. Not that you can just go and find these things just like that! You have to work quite hard to get anything at all.
You must guide your adventurer through the various places that he will describe to you. Being a simple soul, he can only understand very simple requests in the form:
"verb noun"
Example: GET DOG or DROP BOTTLE
The adventurer will only do what he is told (usually!) providing that your request is reasonable and possible. We will not give too much away, but here are some hints on what is understood.
1. | TAKE x | picks up the item x |
2. | DROP x | leaves item x |
3. | GO x | go in direction x |
4. | ENTER x | enter x |
5. | INVENT | prints an inventory of all items being carried |
6. | SCORE | print a rating |
7. | SAVE | save a game on cassette |
8. | QUIT | finish a game |
9. | ON | turn on torch |
10. | OFF | turns it off |
11. | COLOUR | alternates between black and white/colour |
12. | LOOK x | describe x in more detail |
It you don't seem to be getting anywhere, try moving objects about, disobeying laws and so forth. Also, remember the name of this product - it is significant!
Good luck - you will need it!
