A tight and neat adventure... well worth checking out. Read Review
Many ages ago, an intrepid adventure journeyed into the enchanted Firienwood on a quest to find the Golden Bird Of Paradise. After many trials our hero succeeded, but he also released from a lamp an evil Genie, who has enslaved the local inhabitants!!!
Your task is to find the lamp and re-imprison the Genie, thus freeing an unhappy land from tyranny!!!
Much has changed in the wood with the passing years although it is said that those who have journeyed there before may be able to use a little of the knowledge they have to their advantage. You may receive help along the way but probably you will meet an untimely end, as many others have done before!!!
Magic may help you in your quest but use it carefully. The only other advice I can offer is to thin well before you move; that way, you may live a little longer than most!
Whilst Woodland Terror is the sequel to the very popular Firienwood, knowledge of the original is not needed for you to play and enjoy this game.
The computer acts as your eyes and hands on your quest. It tells you where you are and what is happening; you must tell it what to do by typing a command of one or two words. For example, if you find an object that you want to pick up type TAKE followed by the object name. If you want to look at it more closely (which may yield some vital information), type EXAMINE, again followed by the name.
To move, give the direction you want to go, directions such as NORTHWEST must be given as NW to distinguish it from NORTH. Entering a dark location without some sort of light and weapon will probably shorten your life!!!
Some of the objects you may find are useless, whilst others may be vital to your continued good health.
Many of the commands you must discover for yourself, but some of the more general ones are given here:
To move, try one of the points on a compass or something like UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, ENTER, EXIT. To get or drop a bottle, try GET BOTTLE, TAKE BOTTLE, DROP BOTTLE.
If you want the description of a location, type LOOK.
To list your possessions, type LIST or INVENTORY. Some obects can be worn as well as carried.
To kill a Goblin (if you have a weapon) try KILL GOBLIN.
If you want to save a game and return to it later, insert a suitable tape and type SAVE. Part of the database will be recorded and the game will then continue. To restart a game, Woodland Terror should be loaded and run as usual, the data tape inserted and the command LOAD given. The data will be loaded and the game will recommence. To end the game, type QUIT.
To find out your score at any time, type SCORE. Points are given for acts of selfless bravery. (However, brave heroes don't always live very long!!!)
*RUN TERROR (RETURN)
The program will take about five minutes to load after the title page.
