An action-packed arcade-style game requiring terrifying accuracy to steer around the screens.

You're an official helicopter pilot on a special mission.

To succeed, you must pilot your chopper safely across mountain ranges and through underground caverns. En route, you will encounter a force of enemy craft which must either be destroyed or avoided at all costs. Some of these enemies are indestructible, so your reactions must be quick and decisive.

The Game

Whirlybird Run is a fast-moving, arcade-type game in which you must pilot a helicopter across mountain ranges and through a series of underground caves. On your way, you will meet a collection of enemy craft to be overcome, some of which must be avoided as they cannot be destroyed.

Playing The Game

On start-up, a title screen will be displayed, followed by a screen showing all your various opponents and their point value. Those with a point value of zero cannot be destroyed; you will have to avoid them. Pressing the fire button at this point will start the game.

Your helicopter is controlled by the right joystick, pressing the fire button will fire bullets and bombs. Your aim is to achieve as high a score as possible by destroying the enemy craft. If you hit any of them or if you hit the ground or the top of the screen, you ship will be lost.

You begin the game with four ships. Each time one is lost, the game restarts automatically with a new one until all four have been destroyed. The number of helicopters you have left is shown in the centre at the top of the screen; your score is shown on the right.

In the top left hand corner of the screen is a red bar indicating your fuel level. If this indicator falls to zero, your ship will fall and crash. You can increase the level, however, by hitting the fuel tanks positioned at intervals along the ground. By hitting these tanks frequently, it is possible to maintain the fuel level at its maximum.

At the end of the game, a score screen will be displayed, showing the score for the previous game and the top five scores since play began. If you wish to play again, pressing the fire button will begin a new game.
