Challenge your family and friends to a contest of general knowledge, mental agility and spelling ability. There are 150 crosswords on 18 different grid patterns on this tape, which amounts to over 4,000 clues.
The crosswords are split into 15 blocks of 10. Only one block may be loaded at a time. Instructions for the loading of the blocks are included in the game. The current block and crosswords numbers are displayed in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
The game is for 1 to 4 players. The name of each player may be entered up to a maximum of six letters. During the game, an arrow indicates which player is to play.
Move the flashing cursor using the cursor keys until it is positioned on the first letter of the word you wish to attempt. Then, depending on the direction of the word you must press A for across or D for down.
The clue will then be displayed and you will have 20 seconds in which to type in and enter your answer. Once you have selected your word you will have to answer correctly or the turn will pass to the next player.
Each player starts the game with 200 points. If you answer correctly, your score will be increased by an amount equal to twice the number of letters in the answer and you will have another go. If you answer incorrectly, then your score will be reduced by a similar amount and the turn will pass to the next player. If you run out of time or if you press ENTER without typing in an answer, your score will be unaffected. You must complete the current crossword before you can progress to the next. If you get stuck and cannot answer any more clues you can request the computer to complete the crossword. This is done by pressing SHIFT-1. However, if you exercise this option, each player's score will be reduced by an amount equal to the total number of letters of the remaining answers. Therefore, it must be a unanimous decision to exercise this option.
You are out of the game if your score drops to zero.
The game will automatically end when only one player remains or in the case of a one player game when that player's score reaches zero.
However, you can play Trivial Crosswords for as long as you like - so good luck!
