Towdie has a problem. An ancient, evil dragon is wreaking havoc in the once peaceful land of Alkria, and the great white hope just upped and left town, leaving the kingdom at the mercy of the winged terror!

So Towdie has decided that he must free the kingdom himself - but he doesn't even know where to start!

Guide Towdie around Alkria, interacting with the locals and carrying out tasks in exchange for items and clues to help you towards your goal of banishing the evil Dragon forever in this charming action platform adventure for the ZX Spectrum, now released in English for the first time.

Game Objective

Welcome to Towdie, a fun action platform game by the Balara brothers. Use your wit and guile to see you through this charming adventure.

Towdie is a restless little creature who lives in the mythical kingdom of Alkria. Everybody who lived there was once contented and happy. It was a peaceful land. But then, one dark day, everything changed when the evil dragon, Quido, awoke. He killed many of the peace-loving, helpless people and scorched the countryside with his lethal flames.

Vanda, a pupil of the school of white magick, tried to battle the dragon but her spells were too weak. She was unable to defend herself against his sheer strength and was badly wounded.

Seeking to flee the battle, she cast a spell of eternal night on the kingdom to cover her escape. She told the people she would go to a far away land, where she could learn stronger magicks to help her defeat the dragon.

She has never returned.

Now our hero, Towdie, has decided that he will free the kingdom of Alkria all by himself!

Picking Up Items

Items are collected by using the key M. If you press this key in a place where a usable object is located then a menu pops up in which the name of the object appears. After that, confirm the pick up option and Towdie will add the item to his inventory. You can carry four items. If you try to pick up more then the first item of the four you are already carrying will be dropped.

Dropping And Using Items

To drop an item, simply hit the action button and select the item you wish to drop. The same applies for using an item. Select the object and use the action button on it. If you are using it in the right place then a scene or dialogue will play out. Objects will disappear once used.

Talking

You can talk to the majority of the characters in the game for clues, information and to find out if you can help them. To talk to a character, simply press the action button when you are close to them.

By talking to and helping the characters you encounter, and exploring the world, you can hopefully find a way to rid the kingdom of Quido forever, returning light and hope once again to Alkria.

O - Walk Left, P - Walk Right, Q - Jump Up, A - Jump Down, M - Pick Up/Drop/Use/Talk

Additionally, you can use the following key combinations:

SYMBOL SHIFT+D - Define keys
SYMBOL SHIFT+K - Quit Game
SYMBOL SHIFT+Z - Sounds on/off
SYMBOL SHIFT+H - Music on/off (128K Version only)
