Over the years Jack Lockerby has taken many an original tale and adapted it to his own unique style ... e.g. The 39 Steps, Treasure Island and Kidnapped to name but a few ... and the resultant adventure has always been a very enjoyable experience. So there should be no reason to think that this one will be any different.
This time around Jack has gone to the world of children's tales and adapted the epic Wizard Of Oz story.
So cast your mind back to those childhood days and recall all those moments spent in front of the flickering-screen... you never know which memories will prove to be the most useful.
Dorothy lived with her Aunt Em and her Uncle Henry on a farm in the midst of the great Kansas prairies... a vast expanse of flat-lands subject to frequent cyclones and sudden storms but nonetheless capable of producing some of the finest farm-produce imaginable. Uncle Henry was somewhat of an 'expert' on the cyclones and prided himself upon his ability to predict their 'coming' well before they arrived. He put it down to a 'knack' and the rheumatics in his left-leg, but no matter what it was it generally proved to be effective. Aunt Em on the other hand was more at home in the kitchen and was known for the quality of her 'cookies'... especially the ones with the hint of blueberry in them! She also prepares a very fine pot of stew, as you might find out if you examined the stove.
Also on the farm were a number of animals and a small dog that answered to the name of Toto. He was Dorothy's favourite and normally Dorothy and the dog were inseparable. However on this occasion the dog had been found chasing the hens and been tied up out of harm's way.
One morning Uncle Henry strode into the room and announced that a 'big one' was on its way. Seemingly the 'knack' and the rheumatics had combined to warn him of an approaching cyclone and judging by the size of the 'twinges' this cyclone was going to be a beauty!!! Dorothy was given instructions to make everything ready around the house and Uncle Henry dashed off to round up the animals.
What was Dorothy to do first? Just where does she start and what help can she obtain...
This game will recognise all the normal commands as well as enabling the player to interact with the various characters they may encounter. So try SAYING HELLO when you meet anybody or even commanding them to carry out an action .. e.g. LION LEAP FENCE or TOTO DIG HOLE. Use your skills to find out what exactly needs to be done and then do your best to do it. Find out what the Scarecrow, Lion and Tin-man want and then do your utmost to obtain them.
Not all witches are wicked and a good knowledge of maths might help you along the road.
