In the dark and troubled times, brought upon by Paralax and his evil minions, there was little cause for jollity and mirth and the ancient art of "story-telling" had almost become a thing of the past ... confined to dark, dusty corners of taverns that littered the land and practiced by those why had grown too old and feeble to trouble the enemy with the strength of their sword-arm.
Such a person was old Tam, a traveller from the north, who was often to he found in some dusty tavern recounting his tales and quaffing vast amounts of foaming mead. The tales, at first just entertaining, become more exaggerated as the level in mead tankard dropped and most folk had long since treated his stories with more than a touch of trepidation and disbelief. However one of his tales did cause more than a flicker of interest in any who heard it ... this was the story about the guest of Zachra and their search for the two pieces of the Amulet of Darath.
"... it was said that the amulet held the ultimate power and that once it had been returned to the hands of the king and once more joined as one, then Paralax and his vile supporters would return to whence they came and the land of Erutnevda should become the place of happiness and peace it had been in the past. Failure could only result in one certain thing ... total destruction at the hands of Paralax!". With this old Tam raised his tankard to his lips, draining it dry, and then cast a soulful eye in the direction of the meagre gathering who had listened to his tale ... more in hope of a refill than of artistic appraisal. When none was forthcoming, he raised his weary body to a standing posture and turning slowly, headed for the door.
