The Game

Your mission is to launch the Shuttle into space on a pre-set flight path. You must then orbit the earth to find two satellites, the first is from an enemy and will explode and destroy you, unless you destroy him with your laser first. Next, you must find your own N.A.S.A. satellite and with the Shuttles remote-controlled arm bring it safely on board. The last, and perhaps most difficult, task now faces you, bringing your precious cargo safely back to earth.

Options

You may choose to fly a complete mission as above, or to practise separate sections. These are shown on the second screen as:

Your Mission

1. After take-off, set flight path through windows (1st Window - 120 °, 2nd Window - 148 °, 3rd Window - 177 °) Do not use up/down controls during this phase. Roll right, until solid bottom line parallel with bottom of display.
2. The solid rocket booster must be jetisoned at 120s and the external fuel tank at 518s. There is only IO's upward tolerance on these.
3. Obtain Orbit Insertion. This will occur after 600s provided you ensure the following conditions apply at that time:
   
   A) Altitude = 250/5 mls
   B) Roll = 177°
   C) Vertical Velocity = between -200 to +200 mph
4. Destroy Enemy Satellite. Centralize target with the Head Up Display and fire lazer (space bar or fire button). Be careful not to shoot your own friendly satellites.
5. Collect N.A.S.A. Satellite. Open cargo doors (function 2). Manoeuvre remote arm and attach to left-hand side of Satellite. Withdraw into cargo bay and close doors (function 3).
6. Return to Landing Strip. Note: Successful landing requires the following conditions:
   
   a) Gear down (function 6)
   b) Heading between -8° and +8°.
   c) Vertical Velocity not more than 40mph
   d) Must be Over Runway at touch-down.

You may fly your shuttle either from the keyboard or from a joystick connected to the analogue port: (We recommend Captain Grant Joysticks)

Note: The above keys are used at the beginning of the program to select your own colour combination and game options. The Function Keys are used as shown on the overlay provided. Hold down the ESCAPE key to restart the game at any time.
