This cassette provides a valuable screen copy utility for the Dragon. It wil dump hi-resolution graphics from the first four pages in black and white, inverted black and white, or in four different shades, and text as single or double width characters. Left margin width can be specified.
Side 1 contains the Screencopy program and side 2 is a demonstration giving examples of text and hi-res printout. We suggest that you run the demo first by typing CLOAD and then RUN, leaving the recorder PLAY button depressed and the printer on, when examples will be loaded and printed out automatically.
The program is menu-driven so follow the prompts. If you hear a sound you have made an illegal request. Hi-res screens may be dumped in three situations:
All or part of the screen can be printed by specifying X and Y coordinates. The rate of printing depends on the mode and degree of complexity of the screen. Simplest and fastest is black and white which prints 'as is'. If screens created in four colour modes are dumped from two-colour modes they produce left and right hand zebra stripes for the middle two colours. INVERSE gives the opposite of the screen display and saves excessive print-head wear on predominantly black screens. SHADED mode is more versatile as the way each colour is printed is under total user control. The middle two shades are similar (but reversed) checkerboards, as it is not possible to have more different designs and still print every point in modes 3 and 4. It is possible to alter these shades, if desired, by modifying the list of line numbers in the ON GOTO's in lines 63024 and 63027, remembering the following rules: 63028 prints nothing, 63025 prints the left-hand dot only, 63026 prints the right-hand dot.
Text-screens must normally be dumped without modifying the screen display, which is a little complicated. They can be saved on tape if CSAVEM"tape", 1043, 1535, 512 is included in your program and reloaded under Screencopy control, when they will be dumped immediately after loading. To print from within your own program, include lines 63033-63036, specify double- or single-width characters by PRINT#-2, CHR$(14) or CHR$(15), margin by O1 for tens and O2 for units and then GOTO 63033.
Warning: The high-speed CPU mode is used to speed up calculations. In the unlikely event that your particular machine does not operate correctly at this speed, delete lines 63010 and 63033 in the main program and replace lines 30 and 220 in the demo with REM. If you use BREAK during printing the CPU will still be in high-speed so POKE&HFFD6,0 before trying to save or load cassettes.
