Clive Townsend's masterful sequel
With your brother finally tracked down and killed by the evil dictator's men for his part in destroying the original base in Saboteur, you have nothing left but a burning desire for revenge and a wish to see the rebels overthrow the tyrant once and for all so that his totalitarian rule will finally be at an end.
Since the last attack on his base, he has built a new and far more complex fortress in the side of a mountain. This base now hides a missile silo and the missile itself is targeted at the last rebel stronghold. If it launches, the rebellion is finished.
Enter the base by handglider and fight past robot guards and pumas whilst carrying out one of nine increasingly difficult missions.
Once accomplished, exit using the motorbike placed in the caves by a member of the resistance. You must succeed!
A true ZX Spectrum classic presented here in both its original and a new, faster modification, available here for the first time on cassette.
Once the game has loaded, you will have the option to choose your control scheme. You may also redefine the keys before starting, should you wish to use keyboard controls. There is also an option to select your mission. Mission passwords are obtained by completing prior missions.
The dictator's new command fortress is being built on top of a mountain filled with underground tunnels and caverns. An armoury building can be found on the top left of the mountain, and a missile silo on the top right. The central top area is still being developed. There is only one way out of the mountain, which is the long service tunnel on the bottom left. This is sometimes protected by an electrified perimeter fence which you may have to disable.
When you start each new game, you will be passing over the fortress on your handglider. Use the Fire button to drop down. Keep your wits about you from the moment you land as the base is patroled by pumas and armed android guards. These are much tougher adversaries then those last faced by your brother.
Search quickly to find boxes of supplies (these contain the objects that will appear in your Held display if collected). Check each box for pieces of punched tape (and remember the location for later games). Your monetary reward will increase for killing guards and pumas, collecting tape and escaping.
Make your way down towards the bottom centre of the underground caves (use the lifts if time is short) where you will find a motorbike. Use this to escape to safety (press Up to mount the bike; start the engine).
The Held display shows the object that you are carrying an ready to throw. The Near display shows nearby objects that you can pick up or use. If you press the Take control when an object is shown in the Near Display, it gets swapped with whatever is in your Held display. Objects are mainly stored in boxes, some of which are filled with many items. Each time you press the Throw/Use control, you will swap the object at the top of the box with your current object which goes to the bottom.
Some items cannot be seen distinguished in the dark and are shown as "?". If you take such an object and it is punched tape, it will automatically be added to your tape collection; otherwise it will be some kind of throwable weapon (e.g. a rock) and will go into your Held display.
Search through *all* the objects in a box (when the word Near will change colour) to check for punched tape. N.B. These boxes will be in the same place and will hold the same objects at the start of all missions, so use a low skill level to explore and find their location in the building. When a box is empty, your Near display will show the top of the box with an arrow above it.
The Timer ticks down until the missile fires. On higher skill levels ("selected missions") you will need to collect sufficient punched tape to be able to operate the terminal next to the missile before blast-off, in order to redirect its flight path. If you care for your life, you should also try to escape before it launches!
The Pay display shows your earnings in US dollars. Learn through gameply what behaviour yields the richest rewards...
The Red Bar below the Pay display shows your energy level. This will go down when you get burned, when you fight, fall, get bitten or are drowning but will refill slowly if you stand still. If you run out of energy, you will die.
Pieces of punched tape will appear one piece at a time between the pay display and your energy display. When you have enough pieces to redirect the missile, the last one changes colour to green. On skill level 1, you are not asked to redirect the missile, so all the tape you collect will be white.
Good luck in your mission. Avenge your brother and end the tyrant's despotic rule once and for all!

If you press Right/Left plus Up, you will perform a running jump.
If you press Right/Left plus Punch, you will perform a flying kick.
Throw plus Up or Throw plus Down will aim the thrown item.
Press Take when there is an object in your "Near" display. The Near object will then become Held.
Up or Down when you are standing in the centre of a Lift platform starts it moving.
Use operates the control terminals that you will come across. These control defences, doors and other mission-critical events.
The labelled side of the tape contains the original Saboteur 2 file. The flipside contains the sped-up version. This version does not have music in 128K mode. This is normal and is not a bug. Modified version by Alex Rider. Alternate loading screen by Oleg Origin. Both versions edited and re-packed by Clive Townsend for Bumfun Gaming 2017.
