Colourful Stages

R-Type displays 16 colours sprites and maps, converted from the arcade graphics. Move your R-9 spacecraft through improved stages with starfields, animated background, parallax scrollings and more.

Now fast and fully animated.

Vibrant Music and Effects

Choose from three audio modes for playing R-Type.

"Music" for listening to the hi-fi arcade soundtrack port. "Effects" to enjoy the full three-channel sound effects with external stereo speakers. "Mixed" for the full experience.

Last but not least, a "Sound Test" is waiting you... What else?

Arcade and Casual Modes

The original arcade spirit is back on this 128K version.

Choose how many lives and continues will be used to play. Each cleared stage displays its score at end to follow your progress.

R-Type 128 supports two fire buttons for a true arcade experience. (Alternative keyboard layouts for all CPC)

A special mode is available for casual gamers. Learn "how to play", select the start stage, chose to "keep" weapons and "respawn" where you die. Tips will help you to defeat boss aliens.

CAT-Rank

Without running the game, you can check the ranking from the BASIC by typing CAT or |DIR. The 10 best scores are saved to the floppy disc, so your name will remain in the universe forever.

Battle Stages

1. The Encounter The Bydo Empire's frontline base.

2. Life Form in a Cave Monsters with only a frame and innards reach for you.

3. Giant Warship Sets a course to the Earth from a different dimenssion.

4. A Base on the War Front The remains of a base on frontline which is now occupied.

5. The Den Aquatic plants line the top and bottom of the screen.

6. Transport System The warehouse labyrinth.

7. A City in Decay A once prosperous city lies in ruin after being ravaged by the Bydo.

8. A Star Occupied by the Bydo Empire The lair of Bydo.

Boss Aliens

1. Krell Blocks the entrance to another dimension.

2. Gomanda Guarded by a death snake.

3. Giant warship Equipped with many cannons.

4. Monpaira Three ships pulled together into one.

5. Kraken Guarded by numerous octopi.

6. Transport system Lines of containers carrying resources to a factory.

Tricks

Alternative Title Screen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After typing RUN "DISC" to load, press keys S-P-C-Y. When the display turns green, release the keys.

Hidden Message 1 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Type PAPER 1: | DIR

The following message will appear in the diversion of the catalog on the first line of the screen: "RRLLRRLLRLRL X"

Note: Does not work properly on the CPC 464, or with the CAT command.

Cheat Mode ~~~~~~~~~~ On the Main Menu, choose options and move the cursor to "Game Mode".

Now press Right, Right, Left, Left, Right, Right, Left, Left, Right, Left, Right, Left, Fire

You will hear a shooting sound.

Now on the Main Menu you will have access to "Cheats".

Hidden Message 2 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On the Main Menu, choose options and move the cursor to "Credits". Wait.

The following message will appear:

Extra Soundtracks ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On the Credits page there are three empty soundtrack slots. The "???"s will be replaced with the music for the secret levels once you have found them.

Cheat Mode ~~~~~~~~~~ During the game, simply press the 5 key to obtain an additional credit (a tribute to the MAME emulator).
