Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear... That's about all I feel like saying about this offering from Activision. Read Review
The levels are over in a matter of seconds and don't worry if you lose a life, because the credits system lets you go on and on for as long as you can stand... which won't be very long. Read Review
An average blast 'n' hack game. Read Review
Bottom of the barrel. Should never have seen the light of day. I could go on... but charity and lawyers prevent me. Read Review
Team spirit and fast action make Quartet a cut above the usual alien-killer. A nice game which should do well. Read Review
It's just level after level of exactly the same migrane-inducing horribleness. After ten or so levels you realise that things obviously aren't going to improve. Read Review
Ploughing your way through endless amounts of levels in search of number 99 can be a little trying, and I think perhaps the explosions could have been a little more satisfying. Read Review
When terrorists overrun and capture a space colony, there's only one course of action.
Send in the deadliest, most expert team of trained killers available. Send in - The Quartet!
From the four team members, you must choose one or two to take part in the assault on the movements of each of the team members, for three options: Keys 1, Keys 2 or Joystick.
Keys 1:
A - Left, S - Right, 1 - Up, Q - Down/Crawl, D - Fire
Keys 2:
K - Left, L - Right, 8 - Up, I - Down/Crawn, ENTER - Fire
To redefine the keys, press D then N when asked if you want to select a Sinclair joystick. You can now define your own keys.
To select Sinclair joystick from the character menu, press D, then Y. This will set up the Keys 1 controls to the Sinclair joystick equivalents. On returning to the character menu, select Keys 1 to control a character with the Sinclair joystick.
To select the options for a team member, press the CAPS SHIFT or Z keys to move the flashing border left or right to the required character. Press J to control that character with the joystick, or press K to use keyboard control (pressing K repeatedly will flip controls between the two sets of key controls).
To select a team member for the assault, press S. The word 'READY' will appear in the lower window. If you change your mind, press R to reject the character (READY will disappear from the window). You can only choose one or two characters - each has a different characteristic or ability.
When the options are set correctly, press ENTER to start the game.
To pause the game, press P. Press P again to continue playing. To quit the game prematurely and return to the character selection menu, press CAPS SHIFT and SPACE BAR together.
Pressing fire unleashes a continuous stream of fire from the player's weapon. Ammunition is unlimited.
The only way to leave a level and move to the next is to obtain the key (by killing the large mechanical monster) and take it to the exit. Meanwhile, the pirates are pouring out of the many portals on each level - blast them, as their touch means death.
Various bonus objects appear throughout the game and can be collected by touching them.
Bouncing Balls with the initials E, L, M or J will change the weapon being carried if picked up by a player with the same initial. Picking up a ball with someone else's initial just scores bonus points. X2 doubles your score.
LOAD"" (ENTER)
After the title screen has loaded, four sets of coloured boxes appear - one for each team member.
If you are using a Spectrum 128, select 48K mode.
