Pit Fiend is about average among these recent Pocket Money releases, more or less what I expected the £1.99 range to provide. Read Review
A fair game, but not really exciting or variable enough to make it a worthwhile purchase even at this price. Read Review
Five levels of putrid pits and fearless fiends in this action game. Keyboard only.
You are stranded on the middle floor of a five-floor maze. Your task is to find the pieces of broken shield, which are strewn around the maze. You will need to find a staircase, by which to travel up or down to each of the five levels. A starcase is denoted by a red square for 'up' and a red square surrounded by a box for 'down'. To use it, simply press the U or D key as appropriate whilst standing on it.
Also inhabiting the maze are the Pit Fiends, whose touch is fatal. You can kill a Pit Fiend by throwing your spinning knife when directly opposite him. Beware, however, for it can take a little time to throw the knife down long corridors - and until it returns to you, you cannot move.
A successful 'kill' will result in the letters RIP appearing on the screen. These need to be removed before you can pass by them. Remove them by throwing the knife a second time.
The Fiends cannot attack whilst you are on a staircase.
The bottom right hand corner of the screen shows the pieces of shield you have collected so far. When the shield is complete, the game restarts on the next level of play.
The white band on the right hand side of the screen denotes your oxygen supply. Just to make life more interesting, this is limited and, if it runs out, will mean the loss of one of your lives.
