The Story

Phantomasa, the famous heroine of Andromeda, conceived by mistake in an android factory, returns in his second exciting adventure.

In his quest for truth, our adventurous hero has lost all of his money so, acting upon the advice of one Robot Looter, he decides to steal the Grunge Wizards' gold.

Holed up and around the Castle Ogonshiro, the Grunge Wizards' gold is guarded by the evil Tetrarch guardians.

Your task is simple - collect the golden money box from each room of the map whilst avoiding the guardians. There is a box on each screen, so you should visit them all at least once. As you move through the game, you will be able to deduce the optimal route.

Occasionally, items will appear will make the mission a little easier. Batteries will regain energy. Lightning will induce temporarily invulnerability.

Warning: Don't fall too far; be careful when jumping!

The Grunge Wizards can walk through walls and will constantly try to collide with you. The only way to lose them is not stop moving.

Finally, avoid the lava pits and the falling stalactites in the caves.

Game Controls

O - Left, P - Right, Q - Jump

The game features an inertia engine and gravity. This means that Phantomasa will accelerate gradually if you press the left and right key until he reaches his maximum speed.

The jump works similarly. The more times you press the jump key, the higher Phantomasa will jump. If you want to reach a distant platform, you will need to take a run up.

If you are used to playing games such as Alex Kidd or Super Mario Bros, these controls will be very intuitive.

The Two Versions

Two versions of Phantomasa 2 exist.

The 48K version has 35 rooms (and money boxes) and gives you an energy level of 100. This version features opening music and beeper sound effects.

The 128K version is bigger with 50 rooms (and money boxes) and gives you an energy level of 200. This version features music and AY sound effects.

Note, however, that each version can be loaded on any Spectrum. If you load the Spectrum 128K version on a 48K model, it will run but without the music and sound.

There are also some subtle differences between the graphics and mapping between the versions. The 48K version is slightly harder and faster than the 128K one.
