"Amazing Gameplay" - Simon Ullyatt
"The multiverse is collapsing, gradually disseminating."
Lord Admiral Gnotwyrd opened out the great map of the known cosmos and pointed rudely to a system that glowed and throbbed upon the parchment.
"From here the corruption stems, a malevolent blight from a planet unknown to us. It is..." He frowned. "Are you listening, Chi Chi?"
The young Jetranger smiked and raised her eyes to meet him. "A little."
"Chi Chi," the Lord Admiral erupted. "This is damned serious! Stop listning to your Skypod and pay attention. These creatures are dropping in and out of reality to strike at us. We are apparently defenceless against them."
She widened her smile, pressed a button on the headset and folded her arms. "I know, the aliens are attacking us, dissolving each of your dimensions to nourish their bodies which exist in a plane beyond our understanding."
Gnotwyrd grumbled in disapproval of her manners, and also her superior intellect. "Yes, very well, so you have been listening but, as the last of our line of great Jetrangers, you will be expected to fight them. You will need to concentrate, not listen to the radio."
Chi Chi pursed her lips and mischievously let her eyes linger on his severe stare. "Well," she said softly. "I was actually picking up fluctuations in the Chutney field. Very distinctive too."
He became interested and shuffled a little closer. "Hmm? What do you mean?"
"I've studied the attacks, their transmissions and their code, and I can tell exactly when and where they're going to attack."
"Then..." he gasped, suddenly filled with hope for this brash, untrained young fighter. "You can save us?"
"Hey, I'm a born genius, brough up on Cronosoft games. Just you watch me!"
