A fast-moving colourful machine code version of this well-known arcade game. Large fleet of 64 aliens plus mothership. Eight speed levels, hold facility and an awful lot of sound!
The object of this game is to destroy the fleet of alien ships which is trying to land. You do this from your laser base at the bottom of the screen. The base may be moved from left to right to aim at the enemy and to dodge any bombs they try to drop on you. If you are hit, your base is destroyed, however there are defences for you to hide under but these will be gradually worn away by the alien barrage. The alien descent sets faster as their number decreases and, if you wipe them all out, another fleet will appear.
You are awarded points for each ship you hit. Scoring is as follows: Bottom two rows ... 20; Next two ... 30; Next two ... 40; Top two ... 50. From time to time, a large ship flies across the top of the screen, hitting it scores 100 points.
The top line displays your current status, this is as follows from left to right: The score this game. The number of bases you have left. The highest score this session. You start off each game with three bases and will be awarded an extra one each time you destroy a screenful of aliens, subject to a maximum of three bases. Each time you are either hit or an alien reaches ground level, you lose a base. The current game ends when you have no bases left.
To move your base, use the cursor control keys on the right of the keyboard. To fire a laser bolt, press the Space Bar. You cannot fire when under a defence and you cannot fire continuously from the one position. If your bolt hits a bomb, then they cancel each other out. To halt the game temporarily press the TAB key, the game will halt until the Space Bar is pressed.
When the program is first loaded, you will be asked to select a level of difficulty between 1 and 8. This controls the speed at which the game runs but beware!! As you become more experienced, the speed will increase.
At the end of each game you will be asked to press the Space Bar to play again, however pressing TAB will cause the program to ask for the difficulty level again.
