The games are executed brilliantly but they're only fun when they are played with two or more people... Even then, there's nothing here that amateur programmers couldn't write themselves. Read Review
Your software cassette contains eight games.
Set up your Dragon 32 computer for use with a cassette recorder. All eight games are written in basic and are loaded and run in the usual way as described in the Dragon 32 manual. All games contain on-screen instructions where necessary.
The computer will choose a word from its databank and display a number of dashes on the screen. Each dash corresponds to a letter in the chosen word.
The player has to discover the chosen word by guessing the letters that make up the word. If a correct guess is made, the computer will write that letter in its correct position in the word.
If a wrong guess is made, then wait and see...!
For each correct letter, five points are scored, and a bonus of ten points is earned when the word is completed.
A player has about five seconds to take a turn. If this limit is exceeded, it is taken as a wrong guess, holding the usual penalty.
With each word there is one clue available, but seeing the clue means forfeiting the ten point bonus.
To make a guess simply press the desired key and wait for the computer to answer.
There are no special symbols or punctuation marks. The computer will not recognise keys used in conjunction with the SHIFT key.
If any of the latter keys are selected the computer will count it as a wrong guess.
Although points are scored for correct guesses, the overall winner will be judged on percentage, since some words will be longer than others.
A game for one player. Following insutrctions and arrival at the destination, the screen will display a number of cargo items and values. The upper screen half displays your present cargo holdings and financial state. Below this is displayed the present trading prices on the planet and the options open. To buy and sell, simply press 'B' or 'S' followed by the item and the quantity, then press ENTER. Having finished transations there are options to visit the bank and maintenance depot. After leaving a planet the player is referred to the main computer which waits for new instructions. The game ends after 300 days or when the space cruiser is destroyed.
A game for up to 4 players. The object is to deduce the position of a number of atoms placed on an 8 x 8 grid. The atoms are found by shooting rays into the grid. Three things can happen to a ray.
(The above instructions are to be used in conjunction with the screen display within the program)
The score against you depends on the result of each ray. The function keys are listed in the program, accessible by pressing the @ key during the game. Having deduced the position of an atom, press G to enter Guess Mode.
A game for four players. At first this game may seem difficult in operation because of the speed at which it needs to be played. The object of the game is to raid the Wumpus Mansion of as much treasure as you can carry, and successfully escape. After instructions, the screen will display a layout of each floor. Using the four arrow keys, move through the rooms collecting treasure. The bottom three lines are important. As well as showing the value of treasure etc, it also shows what is in each room. Having found an item of treasure, the player must accept or reject it before play recommences. There are two hazards, The Wumpi and the Time Bomb. The Wumpi creep up on the players and repossess any treasure that has been taken. In some rooms, a Time Bomb trigger lies. If such a room is entered the Time Bomb countdown will be triggered and the player must leave the Wumpus Mansion via the maze of tunnels to escape before the Time Bomb explodes.
