A really well-packaged game... The graphics are excellent: satisfying crump-type explosions, black at the centre, fringed with red and yellow. Read Review
The graphics are tight and colourful, if a touch symbolic, and the sounds are great. Read Review
Eagles Wing is eminently playable but don't expect any surprises. Read Review
Compared with other sideways (and, nowadays, even diagonal) scrolling, this is very primitive. Read Review
The game depicts a strike plane attacking a heavily guarded river canyon. Missile launchers, patrol ships and pill boxes blast at you from the ground while enemy planes come at you from all angles.
A critical part of the game is the docking stage. A sister aircraft appears over the canyon and, if you can dock with it, your plane will be rearmed, repaired and refuelled.
Your ultimate aim is to destroy the missile silos and their command centres based on artificial islands on the river. Big point bonuses are given for destroying these.
Scoring is rewarding and progressive and the game advances in difficulty to provide an exciting challenge.
The objects at the start of the list appear first and the rest appear as you travel further down the river. The command centre is the last to appear and a warning signal announces its approach.
The enemies' shots are of two types: The first are shells, they're white and travel in straight lines. These do minor damage to your plane. The second type are red guided missiles which home-in on your place. These do major damage.
The harder an object's armour, the more cannon bursts it will take to destroy it but one missile hit will destroy anything, except chase planes and interceptors.
Docking occurs every 10,000 points before 100,000 and every 20,000 after. The docking beeper sounds when you have earned enough points to qualify for docking. Immediately the sister plane appears from the right and moves towards your plane tail first. If you line up with it and meet it at the lowest speed you will dock with it. If you miss the place, crash into it or it is destroyed another will appear later. The beeper will acknowledge your success.
Docking refuels, repairs and rearms the plane. This means you get a new load of fuel, shells and missiles, and damage is set to zero. When damage gets dangerously high or fuel low the alarm will sound. This shows you should take steps to dock quickly. If your fuel runs out or damage reaches 99, the game is over.
COPY - Accelerate, DELETE - Decelerate, A - Up, Z - Down
RETURN - Fires the cannon (destroys objects on the surface under the gun sight)
SHIFT - Fires the cannont (destroys enemy planes and shots)
TAB - Fires the missile launcher (destroys all objects around the gun sight on the surface)
ESCAPE - Escape from the game or demo Q/S - Sound Off/On
Your shots appear white when you fire shells from the cannon and red when you fire missiles from the missile launcher. If you are out of shells or missiles, and try to fire, the a beeper will sound.
If you collide with the canyon walls or enemy planes, the plane will be destroyed.
