Take the role of Squire Knightson, the Lord of Rhodas manor in Midshire, the central region of the land of Dominion. This ancient land is under threat from a dark force hitherto unseen and from distant shores led by a powerful Emperor who has taken a foothold already in Midshire.
Knightson, whose father had explored the realm of the Emperor and before his capture, has charged himself with destroying this force and doing whatever is necessary to save Dominion.
Can Knightson follow in the footsteps of the ancient and revered leader of Dominion, Romen who had forged an alliance between the peoples of east and west, and bring peace to their land? Explore far-off regions, form alliances, fight mythical creatures and use sorcery to complete your quest.
You must guide the character of Knightson around Dominion and elsewhere and aim to destroy the Emperor before your home is lost forever. All instructions for Knightson are typed at the prompt and the computer will show you the response to your actions, allow you to communicate where necessary and describe your surroundings. Most commands are in the form of two words e.g. EXAMINE DOOR, SHOW SWORD. However, there are some more complex commands, e.g. SAY TO WIZARD CAST SPELL, GIVE BREAD TO WIZARD.
You can move Knightson in the four compass directions (typing or using the function keys F1-F4) and type LOOK (or F6) to get a detailed description of your surroundings. Otherwise, the brief description will be displayed. Knightson can carry up to four objects which are displayed by typing INVENTORY. His well-being can be displayed by typing HEALTH at the prompt. If this reaches zero, the quest will have failed.
To restart the game, type QUIT and to exit the game press BREAK. Please note that all commands are in lower-case which is switched on at the start of the game automatically. Objects or names must be typed in as they are displayed though. Care must also be taken to avoid adding unnecessary spaces when typing. Good luck!
The first thing you'll need is a horse to ride around on or else you'll quickly become tired! To find out the details of your quest, it is necessary to talk to the various characters in the game. To talk to a character, try using keywords to gain information, such as EMPEROR. Also, HELLO is a good way to gauging how they see you.
The game starts just outside the village of Rhodas, wherein is located Knightson's home. Try looking for objects that might shed more light on your quest, and which might help later on. To defeat the emperor and his minions, you will need to enlist the help of characters with special abilities in the game.
To follow you, they might state certain conditions first. In the warlike era that Dominion is set in and with the constant threat of the Emperor's minions, Knightson may often be required to fight by himself so an effective weapon will be required for such instances. If strength is depleted in a fight, there may be found food or drink in the various establishments or habitations of Midshire.
If a particular location looks dangerous it is highly recommended to LOOK first. For example, a strong stench might indicate that it is unwise to go any further! Looking might also give clues as to what can be done there. Most information from other characters is gleaned using single words but to instruct them more than one-word statements are required.
