Mr. Do (Adrian Singh)
The thing I love most about this version is that it is "of its time". Too many modern Spectrum games are written to show off technical prowess, often at the expense of playability. This feels like a release from 1985 it so fits that golden era.
Booty The Remake (Matra)
A good game, but the original holds up a little better, even with some of its faults.
Just A Gal (zosya.net)
Pretty uninspiring... It's reminiscent of Super Hang On in appearance, which is no bad thing. But unfortunately the tracks are bland looking with no trackside decoration. Sound is a simple engine noise.
Aliens Neoplasma (SaNchez)
An amazing achievement on the Spectrum, atmosphere galore and a fantastic homage to the Alien franchise.
Gluf (RetroSouls)
A simple puzzle game that looks and sounds good with a touch of the one-more-go quality.
Pre-Zu (Vyacheslav Tretyak)
More of this please - it would have had a much higher Addictive score had it lasted longer.
Manic Pietro (Matra)
Good looking and sounding, but missing something that made Manic Miner a great classic.
Valley Of Rains (zosya.net)
It's R-Type with legs. It's also a stunning looker. But it's over a bit too soon.
Yazzie (RetroSouls)
One of the best modern era games to be released for the Spectrum, and plays like a souped-up old-school game.
The Curse Of Rabenstein (Puddle Software)
Excellent! Will be easy for some but great for those new to adventuring!
Escape From Dinosaur Island DX (Adventuron Software Ltd)
Fun adventure, ideal for beginners, nice tutorial and good, logical use of multiple objects.
The Queen's Footsteps (Davide Bucci)
Highly recommended! Inspired storytelling that captures the imagination.
Nextoid (Lampros Potamianos)
It's not the finest Arkanoid clone ever but is fun to play and does what it was intended to do: introduce an expectant audience to the next-generation Sinclair system.
Angry Bloaters (Lampros Potamianos)
If you never really played Bomberman or you can adjust your play style quickly to the mechanics, you'll find Angry Bloaters an enjoyable little game.
Foreign Cabinet (Lampros Potamianos)
Those who like this kind of thing should really enjoy it; those indifferent like myself will at least appreciate the slickness of control and revisit it occasionally to challenge themselves.
Scramble (Rusty Pixels)
Wow! I compared this game side by side with the arcade original and besides a few palette differences, it really is as close to arcade-perfect as it could be without creating a complete arcade emulator for the system.
Crowley World Tour (Rusty Pixels)
Beautiful to look at and addictive to play, this will be one you revisit time and time again in a nostalgic haze of green dot matrix screens and excessive battery waste.
The Hollow Earth Hypothesis (Lampros Potamianos)
There can be some cheap deaths and there is something about the level design that can lead to some frustrating platforming moments, but after some practice runs you'll find yourself mastering some of those difficult sections to give enough lives left to push on a few screens more.
Dungeonette (Software Amusements)
The game looks a treat with colourful and recognisable dungeon environments setting the scene with the simply animated, but aptly designed characters.
Delta Star Earth Defence (Software Amusements)
There's a cool-looking ship, well laid out screen with side-offset HUD, and a variety of enemies in attack formation that make use of a rather clever scaling effect to give the impression of pulsating. Sadly, the game itself is a little lacking.
Montana Mike (Software Amusements)
Very playable and enjoyable... Only a lack of stages and a bit more polish prevents it getting a higher score.
Dweebs Drop (Software Amusements)
Any head-to-head play enhances a puzzle game and with multiplayer games being a rare experience on the classic Spectrum, it's nice to see a Next game make use of the dual joystick ports for the first time.
Bubblegum Bros. (Software Amusements)
As it stands I can only conclude that Bubblegum Bros. is a bit of a missed opportunity - a decent game as it is, but it could actually have been a great one.
Tyvarian (Rusty Pixels)
The whole game is presented in such a well-polished way, with fantastic visuals that make it easy to discern characters and boundaries against inert backdrops, with nice bright colour cycling and particle effects that remind you of many golden-age Williams arcade games.
Baggers In Space (Rusty Pixels)
This game has been one of the longest developed and finest-tuned games for the Next and the polish really shows, with a perfect mix of nostalgic nods and atypical Speccy gameplay, capitalising on the new graphical and audio power of the Next.
Space Monsters Meet The Hardy (BitmapSoft)
Proof that, even after all these years, there is a game that is fresh and enticing for the player.
Scuttle Butt (Eweguo)
A simple idea but hard to master - left, right, empty, repeat (wash hands).
Twinlight (RetroSouls)
Minimalistic gaming at its best and I heartily recommend it... Up there with the best puzzlers on the Spectrum.
Robobro Episode 1 (Yandex)
A good looking game marred by awkward handling of the main character.
The Perils Of Willy (Allan Turvey)
A clever reworking of an average game - life can be breathed into some dead turkeys.
Neadeital (Heavy Spectrum Limited)
A masterfully crafted and breathing world all living inside the Spectrum, waiting to be explored.
Dungeons Of Gomilandia (RetroWorks)
A decent attempt at an original puzzler, plenty of variety between levels.
The Lost Treasures Of Tulum (RetroWorks)
Quite engaging, but some engine tweaks might make it more like a classic.
