A long time ago, when witchcraft and magic were the 'in'-things, there lived a wizard called Brock. Brock was a very powerful wizard and ruled over a large kingdom. Over the years he had collected a huge fortune but his most prized possession was the rimstone ruby, which held the secret of eternal life. To protect the ruby he placed many evil creatures around it with the orders to kill on sight.
Then, at the peak of his career he held that he was to be replaced by a computer. Enraged, Brock went on strike and refused to cast another spell. His superiors, though, couldn't care less and banished him from his kingdom.
As a last bit of revenge, Brock left without clearing out all the evil creatures and, ever since, no-one has managed to collect the rimstone ruby.
Now, eons later, it is your turn to try. Can you succeed where so many have failed?
To get to the ruby, four locks must be opened and to open them you must find a key for each one. It doesn't matter which key you go for first as they are all identical.
Note: The first lock you must open is directly above your starting position.
When your energy gets to zero, your game is over. Then you will be shown your percentage score and the current high score. Your percentage is the amount of rooms that you have been in.
The 'Freeze' spell is shown on screen in the shape of a gun. You can collect this by walking over it. For every gun collected, two freeze spells are added to any you may already have. You can only fire the spell horiziontally and, if it hits a creature, then the creature will be paralysed for a short time and you can walk through it.
The other spell that you can use if the 'Seeing' spell. This is shown on screen as an eye, and if you walk over it, one seeing spell is added to any you may already have.
The seeing spell is used automatically when you enter a room with an invisible block (section of wall) in it. The seeing spell will enable you to see these blocks and so navigate them safely.
If you do not have a seeing spell and you enter one of these rooms then the blocks will be invisible and if you bump into them then you lose some energy. Energy is also lost if you bump into any visible part of wall.
If any of the evil creatures touches you then you lose a lot of energy and the creature becomes paralysed for a short period of time. This gives you a chance to get away from them before they start moving again.
The three creatures in the game are:
the slik spiders, which only move up and down; the bulbous bloobs, which only move horizontally, and the screepy skulls, which home in on you.
The number of freeze spells and seeing spells is shown at the bottom left of the display and your score and energy are shown to the right of these.
Normal joystick controls apply. Ensure the joystick is plugged into the right hand joystick port.
The Fire button will fire the 'freeze' spell - but it can only be used after the spell has been collected.
At the beginning of the game you can choose what colour of screen you want. Green is the best colour.
