After the title page, you will be asked for the size of the left and right armies for the total war.
These should be entered separated by a comma (e.g. 180,180). The values for the left and right armies need not be the same.
Each battle is fought with up to 100 men per side. After a short pause, the battle ground will be displayed. Each army will be asked in turn what angle and velocity they wish their gun to be fired at.
You must remember to take into account the wind speed and direction. You lose men if you hit one of the cities and it is possible to shoot your own gun!
If you have more than 35 men in your army, you will be asked to give a delta angle and velocity. This is to enable range finding. A value of 0,0 (0 change in angle and 0 change in velocity) will fire the shots in a tight cluster.
A value of 0,5 (0 change in angle and 5 change in velocity) will spread the shots out, etc.
The number of shots available is determined by the number of men you have manning the gun. Under 35 men allows only one shot each go; between 35 and 70 will allow two shots (i.e. use of the delta angle and velocity factor) and more than 70 men will allow three shots per turn.
The battle ground will be redrawn at the end of each turn but the result of a shot will take effect immediately. This makes it possible to shoot off the top of a hill and then the next shot can appear to pass through the very top.
The number of men killed depends on how close the shot lands to the gun. The closer it lands, the more damage it will do. If you hit a city, you will be penalised.
