By the year 2298, at the dawn of 24th century, mankind had made great strides on a technological and social level. It had assured that the whole world cared about the welfare of all its people and the ecosystem that housed them. Through genetics and neurosurgeries, hate and violence in human behavior had been completely eradicated. But the mistakes of the past; in particular the unrecycled waste dumped into the ocean centuries earlier, remained a problem for many scientists. A great number dedicated their lives to solve the continuing damage it did to the environment.
These scientists included those from the Technological Institute of the Sea (TIS), based in San Francisco, California. A huge team had created and manufactured a series of aquatic robots provided with top-level Artificial Intelligence, programmed to remove any human waste from the seabeds. These robots are the Aquanoids, specially designed to work at 3,500 metres below sea level.
One day, from the US High Commissioner, an encrypted message is sent to the TIS's main Chief of the Biotechnology, Environment and Robotics Department. The message orders the clean out of an open area near the coast of Newport, Oregon, where it had been noticed that Quontacflux batteries had been disposed of undercover of darkness by a number of teenages.
A team of eight Aquanoids is sent to Newport Bay in search of those batteries which use Quontacflux conductive fluid, a highly toxic chemical product, although their boxes are structurally sealed. As no-one knows if the batteries had been tampered with, the possibility of contamination of the fluid with sea water is quite likely.
As if that was not enough, on arrival at Newport Bay, several additional messages are received, ordering the Aquanoids to locate three extra objects in the same location:
A laboratory has been installed near to Newport Bay, where it has been determined that 15 batteries are currently decaying in the sea. The eight Aquanoids are requested to dredge the sea, one at a time, to locate both these and the missing three additional objects.
Beneath the seabed live all of local animals including teethy brown fish, octopii, giant electric jellyfish, starving crabs and giant shelled clams.
Most objects are inside hollowed and sometimes intricate tunnels and old wrecks, tightly locked by those young rascals, but fortunately their keys are not too far... how smart they were...
"They made our way easier, those scoundrels... I'm sure they'll be already copped, but that's not something of our concern. Let's work!", squealed AQ-1, the Aquanoid moral leader of the group.
Hence, the mission. Collect all batteries and lost objects, taking care not to get lost in the underground caverns.
