White Knight Mk 12 (BBC Soft) (BBC Model B)
The author has worked wonders within the limits of a small microcomputer... This must be one of the best buys available for this machine.
Chess Analysis System (Compuchess) (BBC Model B)
A keen player might find this program useful despite its many limitations.
Diagram (Pineapple) (BBC Model B)
Diagram is easy to use and ideal for preparing text, line drawing and symbols. Excellent programming too.
Assassin (Robico) (BBC Model B)
My final advice is obvious - if you want to know how good an adventure can be, buy Assassin and find out!
The Basic Editor (Acornsoft) (BBC Model B)
The Basic Editor is a tidy piece of software, going about its duties quickly and efficiently. It is second processor compatible and comes with an excellent 41-page manual with index.
Dragon World (4mation) (BBC Model B)
An educational classic and it must be a strong contender for the program of 1985! Well done, 4Mation!
Graphito & Tesselator (Addison-Wesley) (BBC/Electron)
Both Tesselator and Graphito successfully tackle an awkward area where mathematics and programming crossover. They do it thoroughly, clearly and, best of all, entertainingly.
The Best Four Language/Maths (ASK) (BBC/Electron)
The addition of support material makes this very attractively presented software an especially good buy.
Picture Logic (Addison-Wesley) (Spectrum 16K/48K/BBC A/BBC B/Electron)
A lot has happened in the Logo field since the original Logo Challenge was produced. Unfortunately for Addison Wesley, besides the four ROM-based Logos, several other disc-based versions are now available at a considerably lower price and with a greater range of facilities.
The Music Box (Selective) (BBC Model B)
A fascinating exercise in logical thinking and group participation. However, the children I tried it with were baffled by the ending... the musical box contains a poem on a scroll from Uncle Silas, which they didn't understand!
Stats Easy (Hama) (BBC Model B)
Thoroughly recommended. My only complaint is that a lot of disc swapping is required if you are using a single drive.
Where a BBC computer is available at home it could be a very useful addition to the software collection, as it will help students of all ages.
Fun With Numbers (Golem) (BBC/Electron)
Not a set of programs I'd give £10 for these days, but there are a lot worse to be obtained if you need programs of this nature to add to your collection.
If you want to challenge your youngsters - at home or school - this is a program well worth giving a try.
