Number Painter (Bourne) (Acorn Electron)
A good fusion of arcade and educational game concepts but I'm not totally convinced that it won't encourage bad habits if used unsupervised.
Revise GCE/CSE Mathematics 1 & 2 (Acornsoft/Ivan Berg) (BBC/Electron)
The quality of good educational software is obvious at every turn and this package has that quality. I have no reservations at all about recommending its use to all those who need such a suite.
AMX Mouse (ACP/Pres) (Acorn Electron)
The AMX mouse has won over everyone who has used it. And AMX Art is a worthy package in its own right... Simplicity of operation, a difficult thing to achieve, makes it a joy to work with especially for youngsters and those new to computing.
Advanced Programming For The Electron (Granada) (Acorn Electron)
For the ambitious Electron programmer, who wants to acquire the skills of a professional, this book is an excellent start.
Adventure Games For The Electron (Granada) (Acorn Electron)
A wonderfully enthusiastic, breezily written and technically comprehensive manual on adventure writing.
Kids On Keys (Spinnaker) (BBC/Electron)
These programs could be helpful in an infant classroom, or with slightly older children who have learning disabilities. The graphics are less than exciting though.
A Beginner's Guide To The Acorn Electron (Kingfisher Books) (Acorn Electron)
An ideal gift for any young person who is beginning to realise that there is more to computers that just playing games.
Make-A-Face (Spinnaker) (BBC/Electron)
This lacks something... I don't think any of the options would sustain interest over a long period, especially as there are more effective versions of the "make a face" idea around.
Polar Perils (Squirrel) (BBC/Electron)
Sorry Squirrelsoft, but you'll have to do better than this.
BMX On The Moon (Superior) (BBC Model B)
Admittedly, although the game is incredibly unoriginal, it is good fun to play.
Know Your Own Psi-Q (Mirrorsoft) (BBC/Electron)
I'm sceptical both of the value of a program like this and of its underlying theme.
MA3 (Micro Arts) (BBC Model B)
A selection of art programs that helped to remind me that the BBC is fun as well as very useful.
The Horse Lord (Century) (BBC Model B)
The worst value for money package I have ever seen... Demand a refund from the publisher.
Flying Scotsman (Dee Kay Systems) (BBC/Electron)
An interesting, if not brilliantly realised, piece of software.
Game Core (BBC Soft) (BBC Model B)
A package aimed at the person who has both a logical way of thinking and a great deal of spare time.
1984 (Incentive) (BBC Model B)
Like a flight simulator, one should enjoy this type of program without taking it too seriously.
Mastermind (Mirrorsoft) (BBC/Electron)
Great for a laugh but not a serious program due to its limitations.
Acid Drops (Firebird) (BBC Model B)
Downright boring... Shell out the extra money for something like Aardvark's Zalaga or Acornsoft's Galaxians... They will provide more fun and lasting interest.
A very useful, and easy to follow though package... I would warn you to look carefully through the manual first if you are considering purchasing it though.
Super 7 (Dacc Ltd) (BBC Model B)
Although the cassette represents good value, I would prefer to buy a similarly priced full feature arcade type game, which has more lasting appeal.
Winged Warlords (Superior) (BBC Model B)
Your only hope lies in your mastery of the powerful flap... I enjoyed this game thoroughly.
The only thing good about this game was the title tune that plays during loading.
Mr. Ee (Micro Power) (BBC Model B)
A typically colourful, smooth action Micro Power effort. The graphic apples and cherries are superbly drawn.
Drawstick (BBC Soft) (BBC Model B)
A thoroughly professional package capable of producing some highly detailed designs, even in the hands of a novice.
Phloopy (Phi-Mag Systems) (BBC Model B)
Whether the system is a good buy is debatable... No-one should buy it without knowing what kind of use they want to make out of the micro, and checking carefully whether the system will be suitable.
