Xanagrams (Postern)

Xanagrams is a game to test your knowledge in words and spelling. It is basically aimed at children who are still at school and could be a great asset to someone who wants to perfect their spelling.

There are three levels of difficulty to choose from. Level one is for junior school children, level two is for senior school children, and level three is aimed at adults. Each level has a selection of words appropriate to that age group.

When you have chosen the level of play. You have a choice of the number of words you require, up to five words maximum. If more than one word is chosen the words will be linked together like a crossword puzzle. Blanks will appear on the screen in crossword form indicating the number of letters each word will have. To the right of this display, the letters that go to make up the words in the puzzle are arranged alphabetically. Therefore if more than one word is chosen the game becomes quite difficult because it is impossible to tell which letters are for which word and it is not just a case of rearranging them to form a word.

The higher the number of words you choose the more challenging the game becomes and the higher the possible score.

Xanagrams is available for both a 16K and a 48K Spectrum. The memory contains over 5,000 different words so the number of different combinations is vast and incalculable. The total dictionary of words is divided into eight lists. If you have a 48K Spectrum, all eight lists will be loaded at once but if you have a 16K Spectrum, one list will be loaded at a time, and after each game you will have the opportunity to load another list.
