World Class Rugby: Five Nations Edition

Were you one of the supporters cheering all night in the street when England won the Grand Slam? If so, shut your noise next time. Some of us were trying to get some sleep.

Anyway, as a follow up to the normal World Class Rugby, Audiogenic have updated the data to reflect the season just gone. All your fave players are included: Carling, Foster, Heineken, but not Condom, the amusingly named Frenchie (who has retired).

The game is fast, playable and a lot of fun. You have a semi-3D view of the players, and the pitch can be 2D or 3D. All the traditional rugby moves are included: line-outs, scrums, biting of Welsh ears and the classic boot insertion, making the game more realistic - but not if you don't know the rules. As well as running around, you can fiddle with the team selection, set the difficulty and even grow 18 inches and get kicked in the face. Very realistic.

Verdict

A lot of fun for the rugby fan. But it's not much different to the original World Class Rugby, so buying both might be a bit keen. The game is playable and fun, with slow motion replays that you can save and load - unlike the first time around. Waggling the joystick during scrums is a bit onerous, as is the passing move which never works properly. But these are small gripes. Overall, it's a clingfilm-wrapped slice of enjoyableness.

In Brief

  1. Definitely better than World Class Rugby. Simpler controls, reloadable action replays and accurate teams are the major changes.
  2. Whether it's worth another £30.00 if you've got the first version is another matter.
