Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures: The Last Resort (Telltale Games)

It's always the way. You get kitted out for a day at the beach, complete with bucket, spade and swimming gear, only to discover the weather has turned against you, with not a ray of sunshine to be seen. That's just the scenario Gromit has found himself in, so Wallace has come up with the idea of turning his cellar into a holiday resort, where the sun always shines. Or at least, that's the plan but, in true Wallace & Gromit fashion, things are never that straightforward. Once you've collected the equipment, it's all about keeping the guests happy and, in an unusual twist, solving a mystery.

The model animations and backgrounds are to a high standard, resembling the quality of the TV series, and while it's still strange to hear a sound-alike voicing Wallace, Ben Whitehead does an admirable job of filling the role. The rest of the cast, including the return of Miss Flitt, Mrs Gabberly and Constable Dibbins, are also expertly cast, with new additions of Duncan McBiscuit (a fiery scot) and the not-so-innocent Poodgie-Woo and Tinkie-Wee, twin puppy dogs. The latter are a little stereotypical but the character interactions provide some of the more enjoyable encounters.

Once again, a few control issues arise, meaning the game feels more natural with a joypad than keyboard and mouse, but this is a slight niggle that doesn't adversely affect enjoyment. In terms of puzzles, they aren't as inventive as those in Episode 1: Fright Of The Bumblebee, and in places it feels as though the content isn't as diverse as it could be. It's also shorter in duration, so the end credits will pop up sooner than you might expect. Despite this, we found it enjoyable at Wallace's holiday resort, and would definitely re-book for a return trip.

Overall, definitely not the last resort for Wallace & Gromit.
