Tusker

The thrill of the chase, the smell of a campfire and a machete up the bottom - oh, the life of an explorer! If you fancy yourself as another Indiana Jones, then stick your hat on and get stuck into Tusker.

The game is set in the desert and stars a young explorer named Tusker who sets out to complete the mission his father perished on. This involves strolling through the desert and doing battle with the Turks, animals and tumble weeds.

With huge hands appearing out of the desert and hordes of Hussein-type Arabs brandishing large shiny carrot slicers, your first objective is obviously to get some handy weaponry.

Tusker has decent graphics; the desert is yellow, the sky is blue, cacti are the right shade of green. Tusker himself is rigged out in a nice Indy hat, Indy jacket, Indy trousers and Indy jockstrap. The Arabs, who seem to have taken an intense dislike to you, all wear clean white sheets and hankies on their heads.

Tusker fails in the difficulty weighting and sprite collision detection departments. Some of the obstacles, such as the Arab hit squad, are almost impossible to overcome. If the programmers spent a little longer making the game playable then the desire to see what happens next would overcome the desire to hit the reset button on the back of your ST.
