The Turtles may not be getting the market share of toy sales this year and the movie sequel may not get the hyper billing it got last year but, if a quick glance at the computer game is anything to go by, this is one sequel that's going to be a surefire success.
Slickly put together and featuring some truly excellent graphics, Turtles 2 the sequel is quite simply a joy to play.
The scenario is fairly easy to follow, in that both April O'Neil and Splinter have been kidnapped by Shredder's henchmen, and your job, of course, in this one or two player blast, is to rescue them both, before going on to annihilate the bad guy himself.
Got all that? Then get out and start blasting. As with the original offering, you get the chance of picking your fave hero in a half shell to do the dirty work and your first task, is to rescue April from the burning building.
On the hunt, you'll be attacked by the infamous Foot Clan on all sides, before Rocksteady takes you on in a damaging duel.
Once April has been rescued, it's out onto the streets and into the sewers on the trail of your master, Splinter. Here, you'll be met by fierce Foot resistance, as well as the beastly Bebop, so work hard to progress through the car park to the factory and the final showdown in the Technodrome.
Watch out for some truly awesome attack forces as you go and be prepared to lose valuable life points in battle. This is one game you certainly can't get through without losing a few lives.
At all times, keep a lookout for the pizza supplies. They are usually lurking behind posts and spikes, so hunt around and make sure you pick up these invaluable energy bonuses.
If you think you can take on robots, Drillers, flame throwers and, naturally, the might of the Foot Clan, then you might just make it through to the final conflict in Krang's Room, where Shredder awaits you.
Take some time to master the controls if you can, picking your way through the first few rounds carefully as you get used to the high kicks and the lunges in this awesome bash.
The graphics are excellent and the sound effects are fairly smart to boot. Featuring plenty of atmosphere and excitement, Turtles 2 has got to be a must for lovers of serious beat-'em-ups, and, if you just like something that is good fun to play, this one won't let you down either.
A truly worthy sequel that is well worth a bash, even if it is a multi-loader on cassette.
