Supercars

With the car racing game Supercars 2 doing very nicely thank you for Gremlin at the moment, it was inevitable that their budget arm would release its prequel. Frankly, there's very little to tell between the two.

Like its successor, Supercars is viewed from overhead, and also requires you to bomb round a track hitting hell out of all the other cars in a bid to reach and retain first place. The tracks feature all the usual twisty-turny bits and those awkward 90 degree corners which slow you down at every opportunity. Then there's the other cars, who just won't leave you alone.

Thankfully, if you win a race and clock up some cash you can visit the garage and buy the usual motoring accessories you'd find in any Halford's, like missiles, armour playing and turbo-chargers to show the others who's boss. Or - eventually, after a few wins - you can trade in your old car for the brand new (and very expensive) model, after negotiating your way round the smarmy salesman by matching the right answer to his question.

So if you're thinking of getting Supercars 2, why not save a few pounds and get this instead? It's virtually identical. The graphics are nicely drawn and colourful - though the cars themselves are a bit of a cop-out - and there's nothing wrong with the animation. For well under a tenner you'd be silly not to choose this one.
