Here's a frustrating little game for all you really big Spectrum fans - Speccy Quiz, a platformer with questions about Spectrum games and pubilshers which tries to jettison the regular boring multiple choice format that you usually get in quiz programs. Instead you play a platform game and, once you've guessed the correct answer to a question such as "Number of lives in Manic Miner", you jump from platform to platform in order to reach the answer.
There are some patrolling nasties to jump over which are pretty easy to avoid but, unfortunately, there are also a number of bad guys who just drop into the playing area at significant speed. If you're in the top half of the screen you stand absolutely no chance at all of avoiding these as they appear without warning.
Graphically it's fair, whilst the music is above par. The attempt to mix up a bit of platform gaming
with a quiz format is an interesting one, and there are a few flick-screens that contain bonuses (like
points or extra lives) which aren't immediately obvious unless you actually try walking left or right
away from the quiz screen. The trouble is that being sent all the way back to question one every time you've been offed three times by a falling baddy soon becomes far too tiring for you to want to continue, no matter how many power-ups there may be to collect, or how broad your knowledge of the genre.
